Vehicle Detail

Hi all for the more astute EBayers you will recognize this car. I brought it only a couple of weeks ago. I am from Australia working in the US and was snooping around on ebay looking for a chevy nova and seen this car and just had to have it. Anyhow I had it transported to Houston and have been tinkering with fixing all the little niggling things on it like wipers, hand brake and horn. Anyhow reality has set in and between working long hours and young children in a foreign country I just have to accept I cannot keep it. My intention was to take it home to Australia but considering in 6 months we are going to another country for 2 years before returning I was stupid to think I could store this thing somewhere until then. It is quite frustrating to be honest I have all the tools in world back home and the space to work on it and here I have nothing, so trying to do a simple task is difficult. I hate having to pay people for things I can do myself. Anyhow about the car I have attached the original text from the other guys ad below in CAPS, in addition all I can say is the paint looks awesome and the car definitely gets the looks. There is a small bubble of rust in the right hand door bottom, if you’re handy with a Mig this would be walk in the park. Below is a list of what I have fixed since getting it. · Horn honk! honk! it now works like a charm. · Wipers system….finding the right part was a challenge but all good. · Park brake…all new cable · Speedo …new cable · Reversing lights… all working now · Number plate light…again challenging to find · Header gasket…replaced · Brake pedal travel…had a heap of free play all good now · New accelerator cable the old one was going to fail so changed to be sure. I done all this with next to no tools and a 1 and 3 year old trying to help….like I said frustrating. Below is a list of what I would be doing if back at home in Oz, it doesn’t need to be done but hey that’s why we buy them. · Remove the motor and gearbox- motor is strong and blows no smoke, it hasn’t done may miles but was done a few years ago so it needs a paint job( I am fussy about how motors look) I would put OEM rocker covers and air cleaner too. Seeing as its out I would also whip the sump and heads off to change all the gaskets and make sure everything is sweet. A re ring kit from summit is less the 200 dollars so if you were real keen you could do all that to. The cam in the motor is pretty aggressive comps cam so depending on what you want the motor for that could be done as well …seeing as it scares my kids that would be on the cards for me. · Engine bay paint and detail so it shines like the outside. I would also get rid of the fender headers and weld up the fenders as I need to for registration back in Oz. Again if you like that rocker racing look leave them as is. · Wiring I have the original drawings so I would remove all the harness both inside and engine bay and clean them up and rewrap them. Like most old cars 44 years of sexy fingers playing in there needs to be reversed. One of the fire wall plugs is a bit suspect so I have found somewhere to get them repro so I would just renew all of them for the sake of it. · Interior is respectable, seats are mint, door trims are original dyed black from original red respectable and depending on what you want new looking or original you could replace or keep. I would remove the whole interior and put some Dynamat down to quieten the road noise down. The carpet and roof liner are ok but for the cost I would go all new, the console is original so either replace, refurbish or remove. I would remove and put in a B&M quicksilver shifter( I love the look of them). The dash was missing the center heater controls bezel and controls. I have sourced the controls and cables to hook it all back up but haven’t installed them.. I have got another secondhand bezel and now all its going to take is all the bezels to be resprayed …have a look on the net it can be done with spray packs and look pretty good. The alternative is just to pay the 475 and get new. · Underneath- I would remove the whole front end subframe and steam clean and paint with POR 15 chassis paint to give it a cleaner look. I would also give the whole underneath a good clean with steam then recoat with fresh underbody to protect against rust. · Rust, the door I mentioned, I also noticed an old repair on the driver’s side floor when changing the park brake cable, I would cut that out replace. No big deal for a competent Mig welder. I would then blast the whole car everywhere with a rust proofing coating. In Oz I use fish oil, I spray it everywhere, it leaks out for weeks but is the best stuff for preventing rust…the wife complains about the smell for weeks but it smells sweet to me…love it. Well I hope I did scare you off with the above but you need to know this car is old and you have to be prepared to tinker with it. It could be left as is and enjoyed but that would be a shame as its nice and only needs a good garage, all the right tools and someone who loves it to make is perfect. Its all the type of stuff you can do yourself and have the pleasure in knowing its done right. It’s a GTS as far as I researched from the fender tag so if you need the numbers just email me and I will send the photos of it through. The price is low as it has all the little things above to be done, if it was done the price would be a lot more. I am not looking to turn a profit, I am just looking to get most of my money back, the reserve price represents a loss to me but like I said I cannot do it to the level I would like in my current situation. Transportation is your responsibility and I will assist with my time as required. I have the title and bill of sale from the last bloke, and am ready to transfer it into a Texas title. I don’t want to transfer it just yet as it will take 6 weeks to get it back, the current title has provisions to sign over again to the next person so that might be the best option. If it doesn’t sell I will Just transfer it into my name and bite the bullet and pay someone to do it and make this car mint for travelling back to Oz. So here’s a chance to save a piece of your American muscle before it leaves your shores forever!! I reserve the right to end the auction early if someone offers me the cash. Oh yeah I couldn’t be bothered with new pictures and used the ones from the original ad…its only been a month so. There’s a lot of info here so I suggest you print it to read it.
