Vehicle Detail
Technically a "classic".This has the extended body and the high top.You can walk through this standing up.It has a clear title from Iowa but, there is a minor VIN problem. The numbers MATCH on the van,but those dont match the title. It will need inspected to change the title.Maybe they had more than one and it got switched at auction,or possibly it was altered when customized by the ambulance people, but I am deaf and am tired of fighting with the FL DMV(always a blast eh?).I drove this back from Cedar Rapids.Iowa over 1800 miles to Florida.According to the previous owner this is the original mileage although I cannot verify it(title remember?)and was sitting in the firehouse for many years.Along the way I blew an exhaust gasket, probably a doughnut. While I have had this I had a new carb kit installed as well as a BRAND new fuel pump and modulator. It has TWIN tanks(switched electrically from the cab and that works fine). It also has A/C and rear A/C as well. The previous owner said he had it recharged, but I cant get it to cool at all.I suspect the fire dept unhooked the electricals before selling it at auction. There is one set of side lights I got working(white),but can't get the rest going and haven't tried.Possibly the overhead switches need replaced due to age. There is one bad rust spot as shown in the pic and another smaller one on the opposite side about the size of a quarter. This runs REALLY GREAT!!!! The power steering is so good you can "fingertip" turn this.I would replace the master cylinder, its old and kinda rusty and of course the mentioned exhaust gasket( I would just replace them all with an exhaust gasket kit).It also has an outboard 3 prong adapter so you can plug it in for electricals when not running(for you campers). Some very minor surface rust on a few edges, but nothing a little sand and paint wont fix.I started to remove the stickers that were on it.It has custom mags and tires that have 90% tread left(2600.00 I was told and I believe it!).The rear bumper is an aluminum step and has aluminum running boards. The paint overall is ok ,not perfect. The interior is OK,could use new carpet maybe and seats recovered(see pic) to be really nice.Depends how far you want to go with it.It has twin search lights that I cant get working. The motor runs strong.Has twin batteries that are now dead due to lack of driving it.The radiator resevoir(reserve) has a small hole and will need either replaced or glued. The radiator does not leak, but is the original from 1979.This is just awesome for whatever you want to do with it.Make a camper,a party wagon "FANbulance" or a "weekend warrior" vehicle. The rear orange "bed cushion" will need redone,or pick a different color. This mechanically needs very little. The cosmetics can be done over time as you drive it.With numerous possibilities, there is no end to what you can do.Other than a few mechanicals you can put money in when you get it,no big expenses. It cruised effortlessly at xway speed. It has drum brakes and does NOT stop on a dime(6800 pounds!).This isnt a Porsche, but they work well.I have not owned this very long but have other projects going,so this one is on the back burner.A great and easy over time resto for someone who appreciates the older vans.Ask any questions BEFORE bidding.Your bid is a CONTRACT and will be treated as such.Ask your mom, wife, girlfriend, grandmother, boss or anyone else before you bid.500.00 NON refundable deposit on Paypal, due within 48 hours.balance due within 7 days.Buyer responsible for shipping/or drive it away!! Have the funds available.A non payment will be considered a broken contract and can be legally pursued,so NO tire kickers, scammers or dreamers please.Has an intercom system, but being deaf I can't tell you if that works. The wood is SOLID and HEAVY,not cheap stuff here!! This was an in service ambulance,so the quality is very good!!I have described this to the best of my ability.if you need to know something ASK BEFORE you bid!!! Although unable to verify, you can see the undercarriage pic and that appears to reflect the 36k miles actual.Has bright overhead lights in the back. Some possible uses are: animal rescue, motocross team hauler(if you have ramps),Sports fan party/tailgater,arts and crafts flea market, weekend escape vehicle, toss a dolly on the back and haul cars!!Great for those garage sale scouters who buy alot of large items at one time.Has power to tow boats too!!! Great project for a small town with limited funds as this can be done over time and eventually put back into service,or a fire dept group resto project to occupy time when things are slow(since you know all the medical gear aboard). This is in nice shape for a 33 year old van,but common enough so parts location is not a nightmare lol.The only thing missing is the GURNEY.Other than the mentioned gasket, this runs/drives/stops very well and what needs done is cosmetics and to get the electrcals fired up(if you want them). You can probably find interior stuff at your local boneyard. One other note-I will not allow an Ebay inspector-I had a terrible experience with another vehicle I sold,so they are banned from my property, but if you wish to check it over or send a buddy/mechanic out thats fine and recommended.I can also take pics of any specific area you need.Overall in decent shape, just showing its age a bit after 33 years and alot of sitting around, but with only 36k miles, its well worth a bit of effort.
