Vehicle Detail
1978 Ford F-150 with the Ranger and Lariat packages. First, the bad: The truck stalls out when running at random intervals. I replaced the carburator, but that did not fix the problem. It could be the electronic ignition module. The muffler got blown out when the truck backfired. I do have the new muffler, just no time to install it. The paint isn't great and there is some rust around the rear wheel wheels on the outside (see pics) and there is some rot on the lower left tailgate post (see pic). Somebody backed into the truck at a store and dented the drivers door. I can't get a good picture of it. It's not too bad, but it is there. The backup lights do not work. This is due to the switch being bad. Eventually, the steering box will need to be replaced. There is some slop and I can't get anymore turns on the steering box to tighten it up. The frame is rusty, but very solid. The good: I put a new drivetrain in 43,000 miles ago. A new Jasper 400 ci V-8 with a mild performance cam. There is an aluminum Edelbrock intake and a 600 cfm Edelbrock carb along with a Mallory high performance ignition. The truck has a C-6 automatic that was completely overhauled and had a mild shift kit added. The rear end is a 9" that was completely rebuilt with 3.5 gears and is limited slip. It has stainless steel brake and fuel lines. It has factory air conditioning that was converted to R134a and blows ice cold. The truck has intermittent wipers and a factory sliding rear window (although the sliding window broke and I had to replace it). It has a dealer installed trailer package that worked when I got the truck 8 years ago. I have never pulled a trailer with it, so I don't know if it is still functioning correctly or not. The truck is set up for cruise control, but the original owner took out the module and tossed it. So, no cruise unless you can find a replacement vacuum motor to make it work. I am the second owner of the truck. I had planned on restoring it, but I just don't have the time. I don't have the space anymore either, so it's got to go as much as I don't really want to part with it. It has some issues, but if you are looking for an easy restoration project, this is the truck for you. Outside of the tailgate post, the body is solid. ALL the sheetmetal on it is original. This truck has not been pieced together from other trucks. All the numbers match, except for the rear end code and that's because I swaped in lower gears. I do have receipts for most of the work I did do to it, as well as the carb manuals and Jasper engine documentation. The truck is located in Wallingford, CT and tire kickers are welcome. The truck is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early. Be advised that Connecticut does not issue titles for vehicles this old, so a bill of sale is all that is available. On Dec-11-12 at 18:07:37 PST, seller added the following information: More Info: To answer two common questions. The truck is AS-IS with no warranty expressed or implied. As stated in the description above, the truck is prone to stalling out. For that reason, the truck will need to be trailered. I don't recommend driving it the way it is until the stalling issue is corrected. I've had it stall in the middle of the highway and that's not fun or safe. I can deliver if necessary, for a small fee, to anywhere with a 100 mile radius of ZIP Code 06492.
