Vehicle Detail

F250 Crew Cab HighBoy Cummins DieselThis is the perfect combination of truck and engine. It’s a 1973 F250 XLT Highboy Crew Cab with a factory NP205 divorced transfer case, D44/D60 posi. I purchased it eight years ago from Austin Texas and drove it 8 hours home to NE Oklahoma. After driving it part time for a few years, I decided to modernize it to be the ultimate daily driver while maintaining an original authentic look. It wasn’t built with the intentions of a being a show truck but its not far from it. The truck was completely disassembled for paint and to do the motor swap. The paint is just over a year old now and is still excellent. Everything about this truck is period-correct except for engine and transmission. The air conditioning and cruise control work great too! These trucks are extremely rare in this condition and with this trim level. I’m told these older crew cab highboys only came with an inline six cylinder and standard transmission as this one did. I decided to remove the 300 straight six cylinder but stay with the Highboy theme and put an inline Cummins turbo diesel in its place with a fresh Ford 5 speed overdrive transmission and new hydraulic clutch. The engine was taken from a 1994 Dodge dually with 150k miles on it (low miles for a diesel). I have since put another 10,000 miles on it. I also installed the 34 gallon poly tank from the dodge and removed the factory tank from behind the seat. The tank fits well and looks like it belongs there. This truck rides and drives excellent and would have no problem travelling coast to coast in comfort and style. Everything is mechanically sound and done right. It has 3.55 gears and easily travels 75mph down the highway with no shakes or wobbles. The speedometer and all gages work. The steering box and front axle were converted from the factory hydraulic assist to the more desirable 79 gearbox with a high pinion D44. This truck has sway bars front and rear and handles nicely for a tall truck. The factory bumpers front and rear are in almost perfect condition. I don’t know the original mileage on this truck but here are more details on the engine. Since it is from a 94 truck, it was a factory intercooled 12V with the P-Pump 7100 injector pump. I used an intercooler from a 2002 Ford power stroke which fit nicely this truck. The only modification done to this motor is a #100 fuel plate. It is estimated to now make about 250 HP and 500 Ft-Lbs of torque. It has the desirable HX35 turbo. This truck is the perfect combination of power and fuel economy. I have driven this truck on several long trips and have also pulled my Yamaha Rhino with it. The fuel mileage all depends on how you drive it. My worst mileage has been 16mpg and my best is 22mpg. There is a lot of sound deadening material used inside this truck with attention given to the inside firewall. The exhaust is 3” with a stock muffler. I’m not a fan of loud pipes and I’m not a fan of a bunch of aftermarket parts either. This truck looks very original inside and out. As you can tell from the pictures, the Cummins engine even looks like it belongs there. The truck is not loud to drive and sound levels are comparable to my dad’s 93 Dodge diesel. This truck was built right and cost a lot of money... well over $20,000. It is truly the ultimate truck to own for any Ford junkie like myself. I regularly travel in this truck with my wife and three daughters. They love this truck as well. It is always garage kept. All of the conversion parts for this truck were purchased from www.fordcummins.com. The entire wiring harness (uncut) and steering column was taken from a 79 XLT with all of the options including A/C and cruise control. Since the cruise control column was only offered on automatics in this era, I left the automatic column shifter in place in case I ever decided to go with an automatic transmission. The tires are 35” BFG All-Terrain on 16x10 aluminum wheels. The seats are nice velour and in good shape. The stereo was upgraded to a new Kenwood CD player with Bluetooth… so my kids can play music from the back seat wirelessly with their IPhone / IPod. Since I don't know the original miles, I listed it at 10,000 since that is about how many I have put on it since the modifications were all done. The odometer is showing about 35,000. This truck gets a lot of looks and people are constantly trying to buy it every where I go. This is a rare collector truck redone to like new throughout and drives like a modern truck with modern conveniences. You will truly enjoy owning it. On Dec-02-12 at 11:49:44 PST, seller added the following information: Here are some additional pictures and a video. This truck also has the rare chrome trim around the headliner and is in good shape. The front door panels are new from LMC. The rear panels are in really good shape with no cracks. They are for an XLT and have provisions for mounting the overlay. I just never got around to putting them back in. The engine bay fender aprons are original only have light surface rust in places. There is an original dual battery tray on the drivers side too (rare). I also found the original production line build papers under the seat.
