This is a remarkably solid, numbers-matching, original, one-family owned 1955 Ford Thunderbird. It would be a great candidate for restoration (or it would be a nice driver as it is.) The odometer reads 18,656 but it is sold as mileage exempt because of its age. It runs and drives well and has a clear title. HISTORY: This car lived its entire life in one home in Jacksonville, Florida. It was first purchased in January 1956 by a wealthy man who kept it until he passed away in 1985. He left it to his son, along with the house. The son kept it until this year when he sold the house and let the car go with it. The original title from January 1956 is included with the car as well as a copy of the second title to show the complete ownership history. BODY / FLOORS / FRAME: You can see in the pictures that the body, frame and undercarriage are absolutely rust-free, solid and original. The car was kept in the same garage its entire life and was never exposed to the elements. It was repainted sometime in the 80’s and still looks nice. The body fit and panel gaps are perfect and it was never in an accident. The bumpers and chrome look original but need to be rechromed. There are some chips, scratches and paint flaws as you would expect in a car this old. It would be difficult to find a better car for restoration. MECHANICAL: This car runs and drives quite well. The engine compartment is very correct. The transmission and clutch are good. The original overdrive seems to function properly (I had to read the owner’s manual to figure out how it works.) The tires have plenty of tread. INTERIOR / TOP: The interior is in good condition. The convertible top was replaced some time ago, but needs to be replaced again because of a cut in it. A long time ago when the car was parked in front of a restaurant, someone cut the top, opened the door and stole the radio. The hard top is included, but the rubber seal for the rear glass does not seem to seat correctly. A new rubber seal is included with the car as seen in the pictures. ELECTRICAL: The headlights and right tail light work, but the left tail light does not. The tachometer and speedometer work but the clock and fuel gauge do not. The wipers work well. The temperature gauge works but is not accurate -- it reads higher than it should. I had the engine and coolant temperature checked with an infra-red thermometer when the car was fully warmed up and the car runs nice and cool even though the gauge indicates that it is near the top of the range. There is no radio and it has no heat or air conditioning (I don’t think it ever had them.) RESERVE PRICE / BUY IT NOW: I set what I think is a very reasonable reserve price. To keep the auction fair for everyone, I don’t disclose the reserve price. I also do not have a buy it now price. I prefer to let the auction run to completion and let the market decide what price is fair. THIS VEHICLE IS BEING SOLD AS-IS, WHERE-IS, WITH NO WARRANTY EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. The balance must be paid by cash, cashier’s check, or wire transfer within seven days of the end of the auction. Any cashier’s checks must clear my bank before the vehicle can be released. If the winning bidder fails to pay in accordance with these requirements, I may, at my option, make second-chance offers or re-list/remarket the vehicle and the deposit will be forfeited by the bidder to help cover the extra expenses. I retain the right to end the listing early. The sale location is Bell, Florida, Florida law governs, and venue lies exclusively in Gilchrist County, Florida. SHIPPING / PAPERWORK / SALES TAX: Arranging and paying for shipping is the responsibility of the winning bidder. I am a long-time classic car enthusiast and a licensed automobile dealer (Classic Investment Motorcars Inc.). This means that we must complete standard sales and transfer forms, and if you live in Florida or want to pick up the car personally in Florida I must collect the applicable sales tax and tag/title fees from you. If the vehicle is shipped out of Florida by common carrier or a shipping company I will not be required to collect the sales tax.
