Vehicle Detail
Those of you who follow my auctions know that I have a love for all original, unmolested and low mile vehicles, usually one or two owner. This 4Runner fits right in these catagories, although the front bumper is not factory, it is easily removed and returned to factory if so desired. This truck is an Arizona truck it's whole life. It was ordered new with every option and was shipped from a Colorado dealership to the new buyer in Flagstaff, Arizona back on 1/20/1987. Cash price when new was $18,090.71. I have the original window sticker and paperwork. The original owner kept a home in Flagstaff and a home in Southern California. He spent the summers in Flagstaff where it is very cool and the winters in Southern California where it was warmer. He eventually retired to Southern California and instead of taking the 4Runner with him he sold it to the second owner who was a single lady in her late 50's who had just moved to Flagstaff. She felt that since she was in the mountains now that she needed a 4WD and she loved the 4Runner. She bought it on 10/15/1999 with 154k miles on the truck. The majority of the miles to this point were highway miles between Southern California and Flagstaff. It had never been off road by the first owner and was always garaged. The second owner only put 33k miles on the truck in the 13 years that she owned it and she also garaged kept the 4Runner. It was always serviced by the same mechanic since it was new locally there in Flagstaff by both owners. Before I purchased it I spoke with the owner of the shop who described both owners as "very anal" about the truck and confessed that it was over maintained at the owner's request. I have receipts of work done on the truck since 1999 from this shop and you are more than welcome to call the owner of the shop to verify everything I am saying. The second owner had the shop owner go over the truck completely before she bought it and he found the autolocking hubs to be malfunctioning. She decided to buy it anyway and immediately had the shop replace the auto hubs and mount the steps on the side of the truck so she could get in and out easier (cost of $731.41). She also could not figure out the alarm system on the truck and so she had the shop disarm the alarm. Everything is still intact but just not hooked up if you wanted to rearm the system. The truck originally had the SR5 graphics on the hood, front fenders and rear of the truck. She told me that she never liked those so she took it to a local shop and had them removed and buffed the truck. Unfortunately, she could still see shadows where the graphics were and it drove her crazy so she payed $827 to have the hood and front fenders repainted back in 2003. I personally loved the graphics and wish she never would have done this but what can you do...The rest of the paint is original and shines very well. I have receipts for the graphics removal and repaint. She had new BFGs put on the truck and just drove it occassionally as she also had a company car that she drove most of the time. Over the years she had maintenance done such as: new radiator, new front end bushings, new water pump, new front seals, CV outer and inner R&R at 185k miles and multiple other items that I have receipts on, Just any little thing that it needed was done. It's no wonder it runs and drives like a new truck. When I went up to look at it and drive it I just was amazed how it drove. It feels as tight as a new truck and runs just great. I'm not joking when I tell you that when my daughter and I left her home she was crying because, for whatever reason, she just loved this truck. I will outline it in more detail below: INTERIOR: The interior looks better in person than it does in the pictures. My camera didn't do well with the burgandy for some reason. It appears more pink in the pictures than it really is and it was tough to get pics that accurately represent the interior, especially the back seat because it just wouldn't pick up the detail. So I will do my best to clarify the condition of the interior. All the seats are in very good condition, even the outer edge of the driver's seat that is so often torn and worn out. The back seats look to have seen little or no use through the years with no wear on the seats or carpet. The dash has no cracks and the original carpet is still in nice condition with some fading on the drivers side. I have the factory front floor mats but put in some heavy rubber ones to protect better. I also have a Dashmat dash cover for the truck that I removed for the pictures. Everything works great inside, even the factory stereo and cassette player. The power accessories are all functioning, even the power antenna. It has power windows, door locks, mirrors, cruise control, COLD AC and hot heater (even the rear heater works well). Factory sunroof does not leak and looks to have had very little use over the years. Headliner is near perfect with only two small puncture sites over the rear cargo area. All the plastics are in great shape. The worst part of the interior is the left rear corner of the cargo carpet where it meets the tailgate (see pics). Something caustic must have spilled there and eroded the carpet fibers. The second owner said it was that way when she got the truck and she doesn't know what happened there. She had two little floor mats that she used to cover the area so it is not noticeable. All guages work well and she did have the speedo cable replaced, the clutch cancel button replaced and the horns all replaced so those items are like new. The steering wheel still has the factory leather wrap on it in good shape. The truck is very comfortable to drive. You will hear some minor wind noise coming from around the wing windows on the front doors at high speeds. Factory stereo sounds great. Even has the little place to plug in the factory work light next to the parking brake and the work light is still in it's package and looks brand new. All interior lights work perfectly. NEVER been smoked in and no pets. EXTERIOR: All original paint except for as described earlier. ZERO RUST anywhere on this rig. It is solid and very clean as you would expect from a garaged, low mile truck. All the glass is in great shape and it appears to still have the original front windshield from Toyota. There are minor dings on the truck but I think the only visible one in the pictures in on the tailgate just above the 4Runner emblem on the right hand side. If you can see that one, that is the largest one on the truck so that will give you an idea how minimal the dings are. Overall very straight with no major paint chips or any cosmetic issues. Factory alloys are the nicest I have seen in this vintage of truck and are in great shape. Tires have lots of tread left on them and are Discount Tire bought so the warranty will transfer over to the new owner and the receipts are in the truck. The rear tube bumper has a receiver hitch but it has never been used and has wiring (4 flat) for towing if you need that. All lights and turnsignals are in working order. The fiberglass top is in perfect condition and has never been removed from the truck. Original factory spare tire has never been on the road. Beefy front bumper should keep you protected from those deer if you have that problem where you live. MECHANICAL: This truck needs nothing to be a dependable daily driver. Everything works as it should and all 4WD components work perfectly. The 22R engine just purrs and those of you who know your Toyotas know that these engines will easily go up and over 300k if properly maintained like this one was. The truck drives out straight and true with no shudders, shimmies or other irregularities. Stops just as true. Shifts effortlessly through all 5 gears plus reverse. No issues with this drive train at all. Doesn't leak or burn any fluids at all. No smoking or exhaust leaks. Engine compartment is clean. It has all the componets for the offroad lights and alarm system still in place but both of these were deactivated by the second owner. She did not like things that she did not understand and she could not figure out these items or why she would need them. She did keep all the owner's manuals for the alarm and the key fob so it would be relatively easy to reactivate these items if so desired. SUMMARY: This is just a fine example of a very well kept, low mile (Less than 7k miles per year) first generation 4Runner which are very sought after and very hard to find in this condition. It needs nothing and has lots of life left to give to it's next owner. You can fly in and drive this home anywhere with no concerns. As always I am more than happy to pick up buyers at Tucson International airport or assist with loading on a truck if you are thinking of shipping it. I have priced this at a very low price for the condition of this truck. Keep an eye on some of the crap that comes on here and compare it to this truck and then compare the prices and you will find that this is a great deal. So if you're looking for a 1st generation 4Runner that is super clean, you owe it to yourself to check this one out. I can send additional pics if needed and am happy to answer any additional questions if I can. I may be advertising this truck in other media as well so I do reserve the right to end this auction at anytime. Check out the pics, check out my feedback and bid with confidence!
