Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE For sale is my 1973 BMW 2002 with 157,000 miles- the odometer shows 57,000 mi. but I figure it rolled over. It's a great car - the engine runs strong and the transmission shifts smoothly. The body is in very good shape overall and the interior is as well, there are no rips or tears in the seats and the headliner is tight. The classic look of the round taillights, Euro style bumpers, and hubcaps always draws second looks and positive compliments. I have owned the car for three years and a change in circumstances requires that I sell it (or my 1977 320i, which is also listed here). The history of the car is unclear. I bought it here from someone that owned it for only about a month. He bought it from a used car dealer in Pennsylvania and according to him and to the dealer, with whom I spoke, it was owned by a female school teacher and well taken care of, that it was well taken care of is apparent. It has been garaged since I've owned it and driven regularly. At some point, the front panels were replaced and you can tell that was done because they were not drilled to accommodate the bumper brackets (I have been told this is a good thing because if someone hits your bumper lightly, it won't crumple the panels). It also appears the transmission was replaced by a transmission from a 1976 2002. Since I've owned it, I have done and have had the following done by BMW mechanics: replaced the Guibo, rebuilt the front brake calipers, installed steel brake lines, installed Bilstiens front and rear, replaced the starter motor, replaced the brake master cylinder with a used one I obtained from someone on the 2002faq, replaced boots and had the alignment done, refinished all the wheels including the spare with Wurth paint and clear coat (the spare is the original Michelin and still holds air), put new on Michelins all around, replaced the after market radio with a period correct Becker Europa from Germany, removed old and crumbling hood insulation and refinished the hood with BMW matched paint, recovered and re-stuffed the passenger side seat (the driver's side was redone at some point) recovered the rear back seat (the bench was and is fine), replaced the carpet on the driver and passenger side. The car has air conditioning but it does not work - the compressor will not hold a charge and needs to be replaced. All the fluids were replaced when the brake lines were redone last year, including the differential fluid. There were rust issues when I acquired the car and I have chased most of them down but as you can see by the photos there are a few spots that still need to be addressed and I was planning on taking care of them in the spring. The spots that I did address were: the lip of the driver's side rear wheel well - ground it out and filled it and repainted it with matched paint, from a couple of feet away you can't tell anything was done; a spot in the corner of the passenger side rear wheel well where it joins the body (if you look inside under the gas tank cover it's the corner joint a foot or so in front of the gas filler tube); several spots on the rocker panels on both sides. The areas that need to be addressed (see photos) are: the front and rear of the passenger side rocker panel where the fittings for the jack are; the frame on the drivers side where it curves down from the wheel well. I have spoken to a mechanic about both places and they are relatively easy to repair. The only other work that I think needs to be done is replacing the door seals - they are fine for now but are deteriorating and should be addressed soon. This is a great car and I hope it goes to someone that truly appreciates it.
