Vehicle Detail

In April, 2006 I bought this from a Studebaker parts person in Arizona and drove it back to California. It was the 3rd Packard Hawk I’ve had and was by far the best one. It was my dream to restore it and drive what I fantasized about in the early 60s. The first car I owned was a’57 Golden Hawk in 1960 but the PHs were what I really desired. But, reality has set in, I don’t have the space and there’s too much on my plate now as I approach retirement. It’s with regret I offer it for sale. I knew the body was not perfect but I could find very little rust as it had spent much of its life in AZ. I suspect the rocker panels have been replaced. But the floorboards appear to be sound as do the rear footwells, there’s still the original floorboard insulation in place. There are some areas that have some flat black rattle can spray and think one of the areas was from removal of a driver’s side antenna, there is definitely a hole on the passenger side where another antenna resided. Some PO has nosed and decked it so the front badging is gone and the trunk latch and lock cylinder are missing. The trunk trim is the original hounds-tooth pattern material. The interior leather is worn but appears to be original, the headlining may have been replaced. This car is definitely what I would term a survivor! All the instruments work with the exception of the clock (what a surprise) and the tach intermittently. The radio works but the tubes in the power supply take a while to warm up, remember that? The column shift selector need adjustment, it seems to be off about half a position. The Hydrovac failed so I bypassed it and sent it off for rebuilding but have not reinstalled it. The blower had seized up and I purchased a repair kit for it but have not done the job. The rear windows don’t work well and I haven’t forced them down so the 2dr hardtop, all windows down, while cruising look is impaired. I think the radiator needs recoring, it has a leak, maybe the block flushed. The fuel line is squashed in the rear where it appears to have been jacked up inappropriately. The transmission shifts hard, not sure what that’s all about. Oil pressure is good, around 40, but does come down when hot but that may be because it’s getting too hot from a clogged cooling system. I believe it could be a driver with some moderate mechanical work, maybe a paint job and be a hit at local car shows or it could be an excellent candidate for a ground up and go for serious recognition. This is a VERY unique part of the Studebaker-Packard history as you are probably well aware. A couple years ago Hagerty identified the Golden Hawks as models to watch and I believe the PHs are a notch above them with their unusual front end styling and rarity. If you are an individualist, this just might be the car for you. Serious buyers only please, but for those I will attempt to answer any of your questions. I would prefer the prospective buyer to either inspect the car personally or contract that task to a service of your choice. The car is not currently registered for the street but can been driven at the airport where it is stored. I am approaching a couple people locally that have expressed interest in it in the past so I do reserve the right to terminate the auction in the event that results in a sale. On Nov-07-12 at 18:46:05 PST, seller added the following information: ************************************************UPDATE******************************************************************* I'm surprised to learn that I cannot alter the pictures I've already posted without stopping the current auction and restarting it, which I would prefer not to do. So, I have established an album in photobucket titled guess what, "Packard Hawk" and I encourage you to see it here: http://s958.beta.photobucket.com/user/jabingb/library/Packard%20Hawk If you have difficulty with this, send me a message and I'll figure out another approach or e-mail you some of the pixs from the album. And yes, it's been washed and the trunk has been cleaned out. Plus the rear quarter windows work OK and the car is now presented as it should be, as a 2 door hardtop coupe, stunning look! Trust you'll enjoy.
