NO RESERVE!!!!!!If you are looking for the perfect winter project look no further. This is a 1979 triple white super beetle convertible that just needs some basic TLC over the winter to be a great fun car for next spring. I’ve got too many projects and just don’t have the time to take this on myself. I’ve not really driven it other than on and off the trainer to get it home about 18 months ago and around the driveway. I did just drive her around the block a couple of times. I have clear title in hand but it is not registered so I can’t really get any miles on it. The car is listed without reserve so hopefully it will find a good home. Email me with any questions and I’ll do my best to track down an answer. The car appears to be completely rust free. I’ve looked everywhere and I‘ve not found anything beyond minor surface discoloration, and even that’s been minimal. Under the battery, floors, sills, etc. look great. This is what I know about the cosmetics. The paint shows very well from 3 or more feet and should buff up nicely. It appears to have 1 respray over the original white. There is a spider that’s progressed on the top of the front passenger fender that could probably be wet sanded and buffed out to be almost unnoticeable. You can see the issue in one of the pics. The top is nice but dirty from sitting under a car port. I cleaned up a spot with simple green and it cleaned right up. The headliner is very nice. Neither the top nor the headliner have any holes. The seat upholstery looks great but the seat adjuster mechanisms and one rail are missing. The carpets are nice. The top of the dash is nice, no cracks, but there appears to be a valance missing on the bottom so the wires are visible. The ashtray was in the glove box when I took the pic. Its now back where it belongs. All of the rubber around the windows, doors and top needs to be replaced. All the rubber and plastic on the bumpers needs to be replaced. There is a metal bush about 3/4” long that is missing where the rear bumper mounts to the posts so its drooping a bit. This is what I know about the mechanicals. It starts right up and idles nicely. The car is now carbureted. It doesn’t pull as strongly as I’d like. It feels like it’s a dirty carb / old gas issue so I’d do a basic rebuild/tuning on the carb. I’d also check/set the timing and points as well. The gas that’s in it, at 18mos, is fairly old even with stabil, which is likely also contributing to it not pulling as strong as I’d like so I’d dump the gas and do the tuning with fresh gas. The brakes are stiff and slow to release so they’ll need some attention. The windshield wipers, gas gauge sending unit and horn will also need some attention. The only thing that might be more than a minor fix is 1st gear appears to be behaving like its unsynchroed. If you drive it as such, meaning you only put it in first from a stop, it’s unnoticeable as 2nd, 3rd and 4th work perfectly. I have a 50’s british car with an unsynchroed 1st gear so for me it’s no big deal. I planned to just leave it as is as I’m used to coasting into a stop in second, but this may be something you wish to attend to. I've listed the milage as 0 as I just don't trust these odometer readings to be accurate. The car was titled as milage exempt. However, I don't see any indications that its a super high milage car. There is no warranty expressed or implied on this vehicle. $500 due within 24hrs of auction end. The remainder is due via wire or cleared personal check sent trackable UPS/FedEx within 72hrs. Local bidders can also pay with cash. I can help with transporting the car up to 200 miles from the Gettysburg, PA area (17320) for $200 + $0.50/mi. That should be plenty to get it into the hands of most haulers, as well as cover a sizable chunk of the mid-atlantic region. Please contact me before bidding if you are interested in the car but need some other type of shipping arrangement and I'll see what I can work out.
