Vehicle Detail
Up for auction, a vintage 1946 Chevy 3/4 Ton 3600 flatbed with minimal rust. This is a great running, hard working truck with a 70s era Chevy 350 professionally installed. Coupled to a three-speed on the floor, this heavy-duty rig starts right up, has good power, and goes all day. It is also a good-looking truck and in nice condition, without the dents and scars of an everyday workhorse. Chevy's first post-war light duty truck, the 3/4 ton has a longer bed and wheelbase than the 1/2 ton. The design is distinctive, with big flowing fenders, a roomy cab and an outsized chromed grill. These were not the trucks of today, they did not coddle the driver or passenger, they were built to haul, and haul they did, helping to build America after the war years. This stake truck with wood rack no doubt pulled its fair share. In 1941 Chevy redesigned their pickups to dramatically increase sales. They were successful. The Art Deco trucks with their bold new grill, sweeping fenders and streamlined headlights brought the buyers in. Then WWII intervened and civilian production shut down. The model resumed in 1945-46, and ended in 47, making the Art Deco trucks somewhat scarce and elusive today. This truck is nicely finished in black, a paint option in 1946. It has new brakes all the way around, a new clutch, a rebuilt carburetor, a stump-pulling 410 positraction rear end from a 1980 Suburban, and a recent tune-up. It runs quite well and it runs dependably, and for those who see a lot of wet weather (like we do in Oregon), you'll be glad to hear the wiper motor is new. At each corner, Weld wheels, with All Terrains (tread is getting slim). Addressing the issue of rust, the inside lower rear corners of the cab, a typical rust area, are clean. Floors are solid, as is underneath the truck. The only rust to be found, and it is not visible, is in the cab top seams at the A pillars and at the cab rear beltline. The rust has not perforated the metal, but the owner wants prospective bidders to know it is there. For a 66 year old working truck, not a bad bill of health. Clear title on the Chevy. As you can see by the photos, the truck is dusty. That's because the owner has too many collector cars. He's started thinning the herd. Bidding starts at $3500, or this American truck icon that drives well and hauls heavy, can be had for the Buy it Now price of $7200. A bargain, considering how few are left.
