Vehicle Detail

I am selling this car for my friend Mike who has passed away. He was a very enthusiastic Volkswagen collector and this car truly is his mea culpa, his masterpiece. This is one of the best examples of a split-window bug you are going to find, but even more, this car's history is complete and well documented. Whoever buys this car inherits the history, from its childhood in Sweden, to its import to the United States and finally to its complete restoration in Idaho. This immaculate 1952 split window Volkswagen Beetle was born on August 21, 1952 in Germany, then left the factory for Sweden. The Bug was delivered to Rudolf Henke on September 10, 1952 and was driven until 1967 when it's owner Stig Petersson stored it away in a barn. In 1995, a friend, Bill Digricky found this car still in the barn parked next to two other 'splitties' and bought all of them and had them shipped to Seattle. Mike purchased this car in 1996 from Bill, and located a 25hp motor just a few numbers off from the original (1-0462952) and rebuilt it. Starting with a Dow treatment to the case, he then bored the cylinders second oversized and fitted them with NOS pistons. Zarwerks restored the jacketed "K" manifold and a NOS single tip muffler was added. A "star" coil was added along with a "D" regulator. The motor is in excellent shape, very clean, and it runs great. He drove the car until 2004, then the car underwent a complete frame-off restoration. Mike had a hard time making the first cut, but followed through and installed the 3-fold sunroof. Everything was disassembled and taken down to bare metal, then painted with PPG L11 Pastel Green catalyzed enamel, with no color-sand or buff, just like the 1950s. The crashbox transmission was rebuilt at that time (and there are still extensive notes to show how he did it). All the pan and suspension parts were painted semi-gloss black and assembled with German parts. After the body was married back to the pan, it was upholstered with authentic Himmel Service interior, imported from Germany. The restoration was completed in May 2009, and since then, the car has only seen maybe 100 miles. The frame and undercarriage are in perfect shape, and very clean. Highlights- Telefunken 1A-50 radio/power pack fully restored and functional. Dash pod restored by Zarwerks. All fasteners oil-blackened as original. Original wiring harness duplicated in both cloth and PVC. Crotch cooler vents. European headlights. Original moldings and ribbed bumpers. 16 x 15.00 Firestone tires. Fully restored and functioning semaphores. Original German manual. Many NOS parts including tail lights, air cleaner, exhaust, interior light, dash switches, rear ashtray, bumpers, ignition switch, horn button, hubcaps, Hirshmann red- tip antenna. This nice old '52 Bug was featured in Hot VWs September 2011 issue; if you want a really nice story with more pictures make sure to check out the article!
