1928 Durant Boat tail Speedster. Came from an estate sale, after resting-forgotten in a garage in the Pacific Northwest since 1976. Up for auction is my 1928 Durant Boat tail speedster ,This is a Lo-Reserve Auction, Bid to own, Bid to win , it won't take that much and alot less then anything like him anywhere. Selling only because we will be relocating soon and one can only tow so many car trailers behind a large u-haul truck. Plan was to do a "Bucket List" run @ the California Mille next year,with my much older brother. This Speedy was started by a long time Hudson collector in the Pacific Northwest back in the 50’s, He always wanted to build his own sports car, so he collected parts and pieces and put together this Durant Boat-Tail Speedy. From it’s Orig Moto Meter Radiator cap, to the it’s Orig BARCO Fishtail tailpipe tip, everything in between is just plan cool .The orig Durant 4cyl was replaced in the mid seventy’s, It now runs a 71, L16 Rally prepped 510 engine, with header and 32 Weber carb. It has more the enough stink to roll down the road @ 65mph with plenty to spare. Whether 4 Vintage car rally’s or Hill climbs events or just plain weekend journey’s on the back roads of America, this fella is a kick to drive, I'm 6'0 and there plenty of room, my wifes 5'3 and the railed flip forward seats makes it easy for her to drive. You'll keep you busy with thumbs up and Smiles, and a gazillion questions where ever you stop and pictures too, without a doubt at car shows "Speedy" keeps me busy answering questions as to the Durant name..seems everyone thinks Ford was the only one that ever built cars back when, very rare to see another stock orig Durant /Star Car, much less a custom built Boat tail speedster race car from days past.. Not sure what the builder ran him in or where and he's long pasted to get any of the tails, I'm sure some pretty cool stories been lost, maybe now is the time to start a new chapter of his journeys, after all he's all of 84 years young and All American steel/metal..Not a kitcar , nor Ratrod......no plastic, bondo or rust baggage to slow him down. The Speedy's Feature’s. 18 X 4 Kelsey 6 lug, straight wire wheels (with spare) with Crager knock-off center caps **4 new, NOS 18 X 5.50 Matched set commercial Tires (HD), with Drum brakes. Datsun Rally 510 L16 engine w/ headers and Weber 32 carb **4 speed 510 transmission,Old school Cherry-Bomb muffler and orig Barco fantail-fishtail tip, His roar turns heads as he speeds up the road. All 12 volt electrics lights and gauges..all work as they should, but the speedo is tranny feed so its calibrated for its orig 510 14" wheels and tires, not these 18X4 Kelsey wires, but there is a acc 12volt plug, under dash for your garmin. Machined dash panel, vintage dash lite too. Orig Aoooga horn, Updated 12volt headlites bulbs and single fog light with a vintage third "STOP" light added for safety to the rear. Aircraft type latch seatbelt. Orig 1928 California plates ( Currently Runs California Historical Plates) Last registered in 1976, "Speedy" is Currently Registered & Titled as a 1928 Durant, and Insured ( Agree value Hagerty Classic car)in the state of california. "Speedy" Needs nothing, Doesnt' leak or mark his spots, always starts and ready for an adventure. He gets great gas mileage too , pulling in 28 mpg (no weight, simple smog free 4cyl Datsun engine and 4 speed trans) I reserve the right to end auction early as "Speedy" is mentioned a couple of "Other" venues for sale.
