Vehicle Detail
I am selling my 1986 Mercedes-Benz 500SL (R107 GenII); this is a very rare car! This is German market vehicle that was imported new in 1986 by its first owner. Unlike the US market 560SL, this model has the desirable Euro small bumpers, square headlights, dual mode automatic transmission, more powerful (245 hp) engine, lumbar adjustment and heated seats. From 1980-1989 there were only 10,000 500SLs made, of those only a few were the 86+ model which has an upgraded front suspension and many other small improvements along with a newer version of the 5.0 liter engine. On top of that there are next to none in the US that are still in such great condition. The 500SL is the best of all the R107s. This car also has rare original AMG wheels which were just refinished a few months ago. I am the third owner, the first owner lived in Southern California and kept the car until 2001 (when he passed away.) The car was brought up to Washington at that point. There is no rust and it has VERY low milage (74,200 mi.) I maintained it as if I were going to keep it for many many years (which was the plan, but things came up and now I need to sell it...my loss, your gain!) In the last year, the car has had a ton of maintenance done to it: -All fluids replaced (transmission, coolant, brake, engine oil, power steering, differential) -All four shocks replaced (with Bilstein HD, provide a more sporty drive) -All filters replaced (fuel, transmission, engine oil, power steering, air) -All belts replaced (Continental) -All wires, spark plugs, rotor and distributor cap replaced (Bosch) -Replaced water pump, hoses, thermostat (Mercedes-Benz) -Replaced numerous cosmetic parts (interior lights, interior light switch, fog light lenses, headlight lenses, rear view mirror, etc.) -Replaced all four brake pads, rotors and calipers -Power-coated AMG original 80s wheels, with new Hankook V12 tires -New exhaust with Magnaflow muffer -Nakamichi CD player with new Polk Audio Speakers (have original headunit still) -Soft-top was replaced ...and much more! This is a 26 year old car, there are a few things that are not perfect: -Trunk needs new tension spring, won't stay up on its own -Tachometer doesn't work, suspect a loose wire or ground issue (same tachometer signal is used for the engine computer, so the signal is there) -There was a third brake light that was added in, it was cracked so I removed it. either a new one is needed or the trunk lid will need to be painted to cover up where it was. -The top of the front two fenders have some paint chips and the paint on one side is very discolored. Most likely will need to be resprayed (the fenders were painted when they removed the side turn signal to meet US DOT requirements at that time.) -Passenger side electric mirror does not go up and down well; it seems that the motor works but either needs to be adjusted or something else is broken (plenty of mirrors on eBay for decent prices, just didn't get around to it yet.) -The intrior leather is sunfaded, it needs to be redyed and the drivers side bolster needs a repair (really common for 80s Mercedes with Palomino interior color) -Missing the 500SL badge on the trunk, the previous owner had an incorrect 560SL badge on there. Car starts up no problem and runs great. Plenty of power! Along with the car, the following parts come with it at its asking price: -One hardtop in great condition with a cover and stand with wheels -US market headlights (quad) -Original headunit (Becker) -Softtop compartment gasket ...and a bunch of other random small parts It is sold 'as-is' and the above is not to full detail (I tried my best to list out the work done to it and the issues I see.) I will not pay for shipping, but I can help arrange for it (I have worked with a company based out of the Seattle area to ship cars before.) I do have paperwork on the work done, but unfortunately due to the previous owners situation I don't have any older records. I expect a $500 deposit within 48 hrs of the auction ending and the remainder within 7 days from the end of the auction. I can help pick you up from the airport, etc. if you want to come see the car/pickup the car/etc. Thanks for looking! On Sep-17-12 at 11:15:40 PDT, seller added the following information:Forgot to mention the following: -Has the very rare Euro Tri-Y headers (can take additional photos if you want.) -The battery is also new (about 1 year old) -I am including a wind deflector, which works really well and allows you to drive on the highway with the top down -In the photo the brake fluid looks dark, that is because its the ATE Super Blue (has a blue dye in it) not because its old/etc. If you want any more pictures or have questions, feel free to ask!
