Vehicle Detail

Up for grabs here (in a move that I will be sure to regret in later years) is my 1966 R60/2 that has been with me for over ten years now. If you're looking for a winter project or the perfect platform for a full restoration, this may be the bike for you. I rode this bike very regularly for years, and she was always a very dependable daily driver who never let me down. However, she has spent nearly four years in dry storage due to a long distance move and will need some TLC to be returned to her former glory. But on the plus side, she was properly stored and will not need much. I don't see time opening up in my schedule in the coming years to give her the attention she deserves, so I'm reluctantly passing her along to a new owner. First, the not-so-good aspects of this bike. Make no mistake ... she's a bit crusty. Having sat idle for four years, she will definitely need attention from a new and loving owner. The paint is original and in my opinion has a great patina for a well-used, well-loved daily driver but make no mistake, there is plenty of wear (as the photos attest.) There's some light oxidation on the frame here and there, and plenty of small nicks and scratches. The wheels and spokes also show some oxidation. There are scratches on the rear fender from the seat bracket, as many of these have. The side stand is currently off of the bike, and it appears that some sort of repair may have been made where the sidestand attaches to the frame. Looking at the state of this bike as objectively as possible (though admittedly with the nitpicky perspective of a longtime beemer-phile) these are the worst aspects of its condition as I see it. And now for the good parts, of which there are plenty. First off, this is a numbers matching bike. Second, she has a selection of rare and highly desirable accessories, the most noteworthy being the gorgeous Heinrich tank. This is a 31L Fuhrmann I, I believe, and it has a beautiful shape and size that really suits the bike well. It also comes with its original key and mounting brackets. Some of these Heinrichs can be overwhelmingly huge, but this one fits very nicely to my eye. The paint and striping on the tank is original and in beautiful shape, with the only detractions being two small dents which are shown in the photos. Also included are a set of super-rare Albert short-stem bar end mirrors mounted on a custom fabricated top plate (original top plate is also included in the sale.) The bike also has a very rare set of original leather Denfeld luggage of the square "police" variety, along with the original mounting bracket. Lots of other things come with the bike, too, like a complete tool kit, original owner's manual (not a repro), a solo seat, and other various bits and pieces. Mechanically, I believe the bike to be essentially sound, but I'd prefer that potential buyers consider this as a bike in need of restoration, assume the worse, and bid accordingly. She is, after all, nearing 50 years old. That being said, I spent an afternoon readying her for this sale recently and with fresh gas and a new battery she fired right up on the fourth kick. No smoke, no noises, no fuss. She starts, runs, drives, and stops. She shifts well, with the requisite clunkiness that you'd expect from a /2. She does have a bit of a catch in the kickstarter which will show up every now and then, which a new segment gear would take care of. This has been there since I've owned the bike and it's something I've chosen to live with (but it's available both new from Vech or pretty easy to find used.) Her odometer shows around 53,000 miles, but there's no way to know accurately how many miles are on this bike. And for certain it would be a very good idea to have a look at the slingers as a matter of course. If you're looking at this, chances are you know what it is and understand the rarity of a complete, numbers matching R60/2 with these kinds of accessories. They just don't come around that often. Please look closely at the photos, and bear in mind that this is not a show bike by any means. It's a nice, slightly crusty daily driver that can be back on the road in the space of a weekend, great for a winter project, riding restoration, or a terrific jumping off point for a full-on restoration. I'll leave that choice up to the new owner. :-) Please ask any and all questions and I'll do my best to answer promptly and honestly. Serious inquiries can reach me by phone at 512-484-3186 between 9am-5pm EST. Vehicle has a clear title, ready to be transferred to its new owner. Terms and conditions While I would much prefer a local sale and pickup with cash in hand, I'm more than willing to assist in shipping the bike, too. All associated costs are, of course, to be fully assume by the buyer. I'm also willing to consider delivering the bike to you if you're on the east coast for $1.25 per loaded mile (my F350 is NOT easy on gasoline!) If you're interested in this or have other ideas, please discuss them with me before bidding. If paying through paypal, payment is expected in full within 72 hours of auction's end. If picking up in person and paying with cash, a nonrefundable paypal deposit of $500 is due within 24 hours of auction's end to hold your purchase and pickup is expected within 7 days. Any exceptions to these arrangements must be discussed with me before bidding. I'm fair, flexible, and willing to accommodate in any way I can but I do expect honest, prompt communication and follow-through ... and I promise you'll receive the same from me! Please note that this motorcycle is for sale locally and on several other online venues, and I reserve the right to end the action early in the event of a sale. However, once the reserve has been met I will *not* end the auction and the sale will be completed through ebay only. Additional photos I've gone to great lengths to photograph this bike from every conceivable angle so the buyer will know exactly what they're getting. Please review these photos (more than 60 of them!) very carefully - they are an honest and accurate representation of the exact state of this bike. These photos show details of the Heinrich tank (including the underside and mounting brackets) as well as photos of the frame underneath the tank. I've also shown the bike's ID plate and photos of the additional bits and pieces that will come with the bike, including a pair of Albert short-stem bar end mirrors, solo seat and mounting bracket, and more. An astute observer also noticed that the bike currently sports Groeger adapters, which allow the use of the Albert mirrors with the Hella bar-end signals. The rare Groeger adapters are included in the sale. Here again is the link to the additional photos: LINK TO ADDITIONAL PHOTOS On Oct-01-12 at 10:20:30 PDT, seller added the following information: I'm receiving quite a few email with offers to buy the bike outright. I just want to reiterate that since the reserve price has been met, I will be letting the auction run its course in fairness to all bidders. That is to say, I will NOT be ending the auction in response to outside offers (though I've certainly gotten a few attractive ones!) Please also bear in mind when bidding that this is being sold as a project bike that will need some attention and bid accordingly-this is not a perfect condition motorcycle (as the photos attest) that you'll be able to hop on and ride home ... it's a near fifty year old machine that needs some TLC and sprucing up after a period of dormancy. Thanks!
