Vehicle Detail

I bought this car a couple of months ago from someone who had owned it since 1997. It was his daily driver. He had the engine rebuilt, but since that was done it has never run. I took it to my mechanic hoping it would be a fairly easy fix. It may be, but he is indicating it will require significant labor to tear it down since he believes the timing chain is 180 degrees off, as evidenced by the car sucking air in the tailpipe rather than blowing it out. I had them start to tear it down, but I decided I should cut my losses. My hope is that someone who knows Jaguar mechanics can finish the job as the rest of the vehicle is in pretty good shape. It was also reported to have a new fuel pump installed at the time of the rebuild. The body and paint are in good shape other than the top surface has clear coat glazing. I was planning to paint it two-tone (burgundy-gray or black) from the pinstripe up as I have seen on some other vehicles for a pretty cool and low expense paint fix since the bottom is in pretty good shape as seen in the pictures. The interior is in good condition other than the headliner is falling and normal wear on the leather and some cracking in the varnish of the wood dash. The radio works as do all windows except one rear window. This was the last year for the Series III Jags and the last year owned by British Leyland. It would be a Great project car for someone who can do their own work or knows an experience Jag mechanic. Or, it could be a part-out investment. I hope to see someone get this beauty back on the road. I will even consider buying it back from you if you can fix for fairly low cost. Since my mechanic has a flat-bed tow truck it may be possible to arrange delivery for an additional fee or it could be shipped or picked up locally. Keep in mind this heavy duty car weighs nearly 4000 pounds and is very solid. Hopefully you will get it back on the road, and you can let me know what a great deal it was for you.
