Vehicle Detail
Gentlemen start your engines!!!! What you are about to bid on is a rare 1980 Pontiac Trans Am Turbo Indy 500 pace car. Engine: Car has the original 301 turbo v8. Engine runs quiet and smooth. Idles with about 60lbs of oil pressure. Factory rating is 210hp and a massive 345ftlbs. Engine starts right up. Under the hood is really complete. A/C is hooked up as well as all vacuums and turbo system, only thing missing from under the hood is the cruise control module. Previous owner had told me that he was told the engine was rebuilt, but he didn’t know for sure, so I can't say for sure. Trans: Car has the original turbo 350 trans. Trans goes right into gear and shifts good with no slipping. Rear: Car has a the factory disc brake 3.08 posi rear Suspension: Suspension is in good shape…car sits nice without sagging. Car has from the factory the WS6 suspension package with quick ratio steering and thicker sway bars Brakes: Car has stock braking set-up,4 wheel disc. Brakes appear to be in good shape, pedal is a little spongy/low. Wheels/Tires: Car has the factory 15x8 white aluminum turbo rims. Tires are the factory size 225 70 15, Grand Prix GT radials. Tires are white lettered and are in like new shape with 95% tread. Exhaust: Car has the stock factory exhaust complete with pellet convertor, dual mufflers and the famous trans am “down shooting” tips” Car has a nice deep rumble out of the exhaust but is on the quiet side. Interior: The interior is in pretty good shape for a 32 year old car. All the special oyster/ grey colored interior piece are there. The dash is good shape, all plastic panels are good as well. Seats are in excellent shape with exception of the driver’s seat is ripped on the left side and bottom (see pics) Carpet on the driver’s side is a little rough as well. But over all a pretty good interior. Steering wheel is in great shape! All gauges work and are in great shape as well.Car has an aftermarket CD player in the dash. Exterior: The exterior is in GREAT shape! The body is in great shape with no rust at all. Rockers, bottoms of doors, ¼ panels, roof around t-tops, around windows etc is nice and solid. Car was primered and ready for paint. Car has a super thin white coat on it as of now that is thin and spotty. I would have it painted to be super nice but you could leave it as is and enjoy it! Car has the right look of the pace car! Car has all wheel flares and has the turbo hood with turbo buldge and turbo lights in scoop. The rear pan near the taillights is in good shape as well. The trunk and floor pans are solid with no rot. (see pics) Doors do sag, but still open and shut. Overall a good example of a rear special Trans Am that would make a great cruiser or freshen it up for a nice collector car. These are the next in the line of rare trans ams to skyrocket in price! Car is sold as is where is with no warranty or refunds. $500.00 deposit due within 24hrs of auction end and payment due within 7 days. Car is to be picked up within 10 days of auction end, unless otherwise stated. Car has a clean New Jersey title. Any questions feel free to email me or call at 856-332-6428. Thank you and good luck bidding!! Here is a video of the car running http://youtu.be/tFh5V7hSxPQ Here is a little history on the indy pace car trans am: The Indy 500 race choose the 1980 Turbo Trans Am to pace the race in 1980. This was the first year that the same car paced both the Indy 500 and the Daytona 500. Pontiac made 5,700 of these cars to replicate the car used to pace The Indianapolis 500. The 1980 Y85 Turbo Pace Car Trans Ams were similar to the 1979 10th Anniversary Trans Am in the paint scheme. The Pace Car had white lower body paint with charcoal upper body paint offset by a tri-color body accent stripes. The decals used were now the larger 5-color turbo hood bird and "Turbo 4.9" on the bulge on the hood designed to accommodate the turbo-charger and 3-light system for the turbo-boost. The Indy 500 emblem was located on the side fenders and the rear tail spoilers. The optional "Indy 500 Pace Car" door decals or the "22nd Annual Daytona 500 Mile Race" door decals were an extra option. The interior was a custom Oyster vinyl seats with hobnail inserts and the bird was embroidered on the center of the rear seats and on the door panels. The rest of the interior was an Oyster white with charcoal grey dash and center console. A Special ETR AM/FM Cassette with seek-and-scan features, a digital display, and red dash lights rounded out the interior. The car came with the Turbo-charged 301 motor and was standard with the WS6 handling package set off but the 15x8 inch turbo rims finished in white. The car also came fully equipped with power windows, power locks, A/C, and more.
