Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 For sale. I am selling my beautiful 1980 Guards Red Porsche SC sunroof coupe. She is truly a classic and certainly the apple of my eye, but I must part with her to pay for educational expenses. History of the 911 SC. What does SC mean? The answer is Super Carrera. It followed on from the Carrera 2.7 model. Thirteen years after the 911 hit the roads the 911 was going from strength to strength. The 911 was now a more subtle, refined grand tourer which you could completely depend on. The 911 SC saw the introduction of a fully galvanized bodyshell, an industry leading development that offered longevity over years of exposure to salt covered winter roads. The engineers worked to achieve a flatter torque curve, thus increasing the appeal of the car. They changed the brake servo which greatly improved driveability around town and reduced pedal effort when the brakes were cold. The SC used the same mechanical components as the Carrera 3.0 and kept the attractive flared rear wheel arches. Outright performance was not much changed, but the effect of advancing the timing of the same camshafts by just six degrees allowed the SC to pull confidently from surprisingly low revs - a feature of the 911 that has remained ever since. The SC used the Turbo based 930 engine of 2994cc (182.63cu in) that had been developed for the European Carrera 3.0. The extra capacity was achieved by increasing the bore size from 90mm (3.5in) to 95mm (3.71 in). Stroke remained at 70.4mm (2.75in) although a new crankshaft with larger main and con rod bearings was used. The 1980 engines were 'optimized', to use the factory's description. The improvements were revised ignition and camshaft timing, a tightening of design tolerances in certain areas of the engine, and an increase in compression ratio to 9.3:1. As well as more power, there was a claimed 10 per cent improvement in fuel consumption. The increase in compression ratio combined with the ignition timing improvements, had the effect to make the new model American SCs more flexible and lively. Specifications: - Weight 1160 Kg (2,535 lbs) - Horsepower 180 hp@5500 - Torque 244 ft/lbs@4200 - Top speed 225 Km/h (140 MPH) - Acceleration 1 – 100 Km/h (62 MPH) 7 seconds - Number built 4,272 - Gearbox 915/63 Care: This car has been meticulously cared for. It has been garaged for most of its life. Every single thing that went wrong was quickly and professionally attended to. You will notice small details like the clean and correct black around the windows, the seals around the sunroof and doors, the Porsche logo rugs, the fuse block, the wiring, the engine compartment, the well-oiled leather seats and dash, and the brand-new looking paint. What you might not notice is the mechanical repairs, upgrades, and maintenance, like the power window motor replacement and door lock replacement. Previous owners and me have been completely thorough in keeping this car in top-notch condition. Finish: Nothing less than spectacular. The car was completely bare-metal repainted in the original Guards Red by Hatch’s Auto Body of Denver in 1997 at a cost of $4,000 in 1997 dollars. It has been garaged since, and looks like it was painted yesterday. There are very few marks on the paint at all. It shines up bright and deep. There are no discernible door dings or parking lot marks. The lower body panels are clean and mark-free. It could pass for new. Mechanical: The engine was completely rebuilt by Gunbarrel Import Motors in 2002 at a cost of over $14,000 after an unfortunate incident with a crushed oil cooler line. The original engine was rebuilt and not swapped which would have been a less expensive but less attractive alternative. The rebuild included replacement cam, main and rod bearings, cam timing chains, clutch, rocker arms, rings, oil reservoir, and many associated parts. Only 15,000 miles have been put on this engine since the rebuild. Other upgrades and repairs include Carrera tensioners, pop-off valve, fuel pump, Koni adjustable shocks/struts, air conditioner compressor, and a long list of other items too many to mention. I have most receipts for work done. Owning this car: You will draw a crowd where ever you go, because of the classic style and the dazzling finish. It is a delight to drive, starting easily, idling smoothly, and running strong. It is quiet and cool inside, with the air conditioning blowing cold, but raucous and fast with the windows down, sunroof open, and sights on an open road. The speedometer has been upgraded to the 160 MPH one so you know how fast you were going when you passed the trooper, and the radio has been upgraded to premium sound to keep you occupied while he writes the ticket. Hope that never happens. It may sound silly to mention, but you can park this car in your friend’s driveway; the engine is so tight it does not leak oil. Information: All information requests will be promptly answered. Additional information is available on my Web site at my site . I reserve the right to cancel any bid from an unqualified bidder, and I also reserve the right to end the listing prematurely if I receive an acceptable offer. Sales terms are as follows: An immediate deposit of $500 is required within 48 hours of auction close. Full payment is required within 7 days of auction close. Buyer is responsible for vehicle pickup or shipping (but I will be happy to assist in coordinating the arrangements).Pictures: One viewer asked about the different license plates, the addition of the 911SC tag, and different-appearing interior color. All pictures are of the same car. I took some of the pictures the day I bought the car and it still had the previous owner's plates on it.Secondly, the previous owner never replaced the "911 SC" emblem on the engine hatch. I thought this a travesty and bought an authentic Porsche one and installed it. Lastly, the pictures of the interior appear in different shades only because of the lighting. The best representation or the actual color is the shot straight in the left door.
