Vehicle Detail

Up for a true no-reserve auction where the price starts at $0.99, is a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 with the venerable inline 4.0 liter motor, Rancho 2.5" lift (3" front, 2" rear), Rancho shocks all around, ARB front bumper, external spare tire carry rear bumper (I believe by Kennisaw), Rock-It high flow rate air filter, and I think the exhaust system is high flow rate from the header back - it sounds nice. Set up for towing with a 2" receiver and a round 6-prong plug. I've owned the vehicle for 11 or 12 years. Over the last year or two, it is likely I put more money into this thing than you're going to buy it for in this auction. No major engine work. No major transmission work. Batteries, water pumps, alternators, belts, hoses, radiator, idler pulley bearings, coil, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor have been replaced as required. Rear brake pads were just replaced. AC works, but is converted to R134, so doesn't cool as good as it was designed to do - convert back to R12 for top performance. Both front hubs have been replaced within the last 5,000 miles or so. All of the steering linkages have been replaced in the last 5,000 miles or so and the steering box was replaced one or two thousand miles ago - if that. The tires are 32X11.5-R15 BF Goodrich All Terrain TA's with 2,500 miles. Yes, they are a little bit too big for the lift and rub a wee bit when turning lock-to-lock, and if you hit a really big bump offroad, the rears will rub in the wheel wells slightly, but they're so good offroad! So, you live with it. The spare is a BF Goodrich Mud Terrain. It is re-geared to 4.56:1. The stock gearing was about 10% too tall with the tires. The thing just didn't want to go when it shifted into overdrive. The taller and wider tires add drag, the lift adds aerodynamic drag, the bumpers add weight, it was all too much. Instead of gearing it to only correct for tire size, all of the drag and weight would have still bogged it down. That would have been a 4.11:1 ratio. Instead I opted for the 4.56 ratio. This makes it very drivable. I didn't correct the speedo, so there is about a 10% speedo error. If you are showing 55 mph, you actually doing about 50 mph - 33 for 30, 44 for 40, 66 for 60 - you get the idea. But, it drives right! The pinstripe on the driver's door and left front fender are not straight like the other side, so those areas have been repainted. I don't know if that was from 4x4'ing damage or from an accident. Maybe CARFAX will tell you something. I don't have a CARFAX subscription with which to check on it with. No FOB. Only one rear headrest. The 85 watt yellow auxiliary flood lights on the bumper and the roof work. The bumper lights can only go on when the parking or headlights are on. The roof lights can only go on when the parking or headlights are on and you're in 4WD. The roof lights can also be turned on when the parking or headlights are off and you're in 2WD. That is nice for those headlight safety sections with rolling hill unsafe passing zones - they'll see the roof lights sooner than they would the headlights as you pop out of a blind spot. The bumper lights face forward and the roof lights are canted out slightly. When your offroad, they fill the scene in front of you nicely. The yellowness of the lights accentuates the dirt. Using the bumper lights on the road with the high beams really helps on those deserted roads at night - you can see the animals on the side of the road before you spook them. Because the differentials are open, it never got into radical 4x4'ing under my watch. Dirt roads and ATV trails are about as much as I've done in it. And, it went to the snow at Mammoth Mountain many times. It loves the snow! The yellow auxiliary lights melt off the snow when the headlights are getting snow buildup. The raked windshield doesn't collect snow. I took it to Mammoth during the epic winter of 2005, and it always had superior performance compared to other vehicles in the snow. Put posi-traction in the rear differential and it would be a very capable off-road machine. It got hot and the window tint in the rear window partially separated a few years ago. Them's the breaks when you live in the desert. There is some driveline shimmy around 65 - 70 mph. That is typical for a higher mileage lifted 4x4. Maybe you live in a town with a better driveline service shop than I do and can have this corrected. I think there is a slight oil leak at the back of the engine. It might be the main seal. I know it isn't the valve cover - that was fixed. It isn't enough to worry about so I never got it fixed. I figured if I needed to have the transmission rebuilt, I'd do it then. This had the typical coil grounding problem that failed coils. I think I fixed it, but nevertheless, there are two new coils under the rear seat left over from when I was working on this. If a Californian wins the auction, as the seller, I need to get this thing smogged per California law. So don't expect to pick it up the day after the auction unless you plan on getting it smogged yourself. Pink-slip is in hand ready for signature. Payment is $500 via Paypal within 48 hours of the auction end and the rest in cash when you pick it up. Non-paying bidders will be reported and either a second chance offer will be made or it will be relisted.
