Vehicle Detail

Hard to put this one up for sale. A 40 mercury coupe (and this car especially) has been a dream of mine since I was 12 years old, but it's taken me so long to obtain it that I had time to start a very different life, and priorities have changed. Car is incredibly solid and original. The last time this car was registered and on the road was in 1960, and since then has been shuffled around storage in Colorado. This state does an amazing job preserving cars, and because of this the body is nearly rust free and extremely straight. A couple of my pics show the car wet at the car wash to highlight just how straight this car actually is. The only major modification is the 1949 Mercury flathead that has been dropped in at one time. Engine does turn over by hand, but does not run. Just about everything that the car didn't have when I purchased it, I located. The only things I haven't yet found has been the tailight lenses, grill center, dash plastics, and an original key to unlock the steering column. Pitman arm has been disconnected, and car steers by hand at the wheels until that is made. Otherwise 99.9% complete if your plan is restoration. Brakes do not work. Tires are poor but hold air. Wheels have been changed from 16 inch to 15 inch. Several parts not pictured go with this car including original front bumper with "Mercury Eight" bumper guard, extra transmission, original heater, and several small parts (shocks, door handles, etc.) The family I purchased these from had two 40 Mercury coupes, this one, and the one my father bought that I recently sold for him which is now on ebay for $20,000 or best offer from the buyer. That car was very nice and solid, but this one was still the better of the two, and had the 49 Mercury engine. My asking price is much more reasonable, and this car here is worth every penny of the asking price, and if I don't get it, that's completely ok, it'll just be a lot of storage juggling and time before I can turn any focus to it. It's hard to describe just how nice of a project this car is, and even if I look to purchase another 40 merc coupe project down the road, I would be hard pressed to find another one on this level. This car is an absolute time capsule. Having been after one for years, 1940 Mercury Coupes are just impossible to find, and when you do they're never going to be this nice unless someone else has already touched them and wants double my asking price. This is great deal for someone with room to store and time to work on it. Selling with a low reserve and a very fair buy it now price. Please ask all questions before bidding. Selling as is. Buyer pays for and arranged shipping. I'll help where I can. $500 due within 24 hours of auction end with remainder to be paid within one week of auction end. Car can be stored for 14 days past auction end, or unless other arrangments are discussed. Thankyou, and good luck!
