Vehicle Detail
RELISTED DUE TO A SCAMMER. THIS TRUCK WAS NOT AND WILL NOT EVER BE LISTED FOR SALE ON CRAIGSLIST. My apologies to all of the serious watchers and bidders. please contact me directly with any questions about this vehicle. This truck is listed locally, and I reserve the right to end the auction early. However, I will not end the auction after the reserve is met. 1971 Chevy c/20 Custom CamperRare Longhorn Edition Very few cars put a stupid smile on your face every time you get behind the wheel. This amazing pickup is one of those few. An absolute joy to drive, and a real attention getter, this old girl is one of those trucks that helped build this country. And it's one of Chevy's prettiest truck designs, IMHO. This truck has always been a well loved California vehicle, and still wears it's original issue black plates. It was born in the Fremont, CA plant, ordered from a dealership in pasadena by a man who made liberal with the options list (though there wasn't much to choose from): power steering & brakes, 4 season air conditioning, radio, comfort and convenience package, 350 v8, automatic transmission, lower wide trim moldings, the custom camper package - heavy duty front and rear suspension, 3/4 ton chassis, and twin saddle auxiliary gas tanks, and the rare Longhorn package - 133in. wheelbase & 8.5 foot bed. Only 3331 Longhorns were made in '71. She was painted Ochre (yellow) and white, the paint she still wears today, and upholstered in parchment color. Just one look at this truck and you can tell she was never abused. Straight and true body with only the nicks and scrapes a truck of any kind is bound to get in 41 years of service. There are only two tiny areas of rust on this truck: the tip of the driver's side front quarter just behind the bumper, and the very corner (lower front) of the passenger side door. That's it. All other spots are surface only, and greatly add to the patina and character of this survivor ride. The undercarriage is clean and rock solid, as a California truck should be. She's covered only 96k miles, and the interior condition is a testament to that pampered life. The original carpet and mat are in excellent original condition. As are the sun visors, dash, seatbelts, etc. The previous owner decided to redo the upholstery to stock specs but in brown. This included the door panels, bench seat, and steering wheel. Check out the cab photos! It's so clean and so comfortable. By the time I purchased the truck, the previous owner had already begun restoring her mechanically, and, thankfully, left the exterior original. He spent (I have all receipts) over $10k on her having: the trans rebuilt, rear end gone through, tune the suspension, strip down and rebuild the steering column, redo the heating system - new core, blower motor, control panel, all new duct work, do a bottom end motor rebuild, redo the brakes, new tires, install LEDs in the tail lights for safety, and reupholster the interior. All work was done by Chevy technicians at a dealership. I purchased the truck earlier this year, and within the last THREE MONTHS went ahead and did a full top end freshening of the motor. Chuck's Auto and Dream Machines (fantastic restorers) did all the work. Receipts come with the truck of course. Heads were completely redone w/new valves, valve guides, and springs. New exhaust gaskets were installed, as well as new engine gaskets from the heads up. The radiator was flushed, cleaned and serviced, new hoses, plugs, wired, distributor, belts, paint and detail, and EVERYTHING adjusted. This truck drives so amazingly well. Dead reliable. I drive it everyday. Since getting it back from Chuck's, I've done two roadtrips to Las Vegas. Just over 1400 miles. Never, ever skipped a beat. And with that huge radiator and egg crate grille, she always stays below center line. Even in the desert heat of 100+. I wouldn't hesitate to drive her across the country, and you'd have a place to sleep with the extended bed. You can't go anywhere without someone telling you what a bad-ass truck this is. Especially with the vintage "I'd rather eat worms than drive a Ford" bumper sticker. She's the best of both worlds, completely original exterior, with the reliability of a restored vehicle. The three things that aren't quite perfect are: 1.) the AM radio gets power but no sound. I was going to restore it and convert it to FM. Easy thing to do and you keep things stock. 2.) The AC wasn't blowing cold, so I took the belt off. My intention was to convert the truck to new R-134a refrigerant anyways. Just hadn't gotten there yet. 3.) She's got twin saddle tanks, which is cool, but I've never played with them. So their condition is unknown. The previous owner took off the camper mirrors (I unfortunately don't have them) and installed sport mirrors. The holes in the doors are the camper mirror mounting points. I was going to find a pair and reinstall them, but that's up to the next owner. Also, the glove box cardboard is original, but kinda ratty. But that's all really minor stuff. She's turnkey and ready to go! I always keep her detailed with Meguiar's and waxed to preserve the original paint as much as possible. She's an absolute classic and should be enjoyed and treated as one. Would be great to tow your classic, rod, or bike to events (she's got a tow hitch!). Use her as a shop truck for your garage, or just enjoy this one. Wrapping up, this is just one amazing vehicle. I know everybody on ebay says this, but I bought her with no intention of ever selling her. But I've just been married, have two other projects in the pipeline including a '38 chevy 1/2 ton, and just bought a '41 pontiac. So I need the space. This truck comes with receipts for all work performed within the last 4 years, a set of ORIGINAL factory shop manuals, an NOS gas cap still in the box, and some extra interior parts. The title is clear and in my name. ASK QUESTIONS! THis is a 41 year old vehicle, so please don't expect a new Silverado. Take the time to come see it and drive it. Or send someone you trust to do the same. The truck is sold without warrantee, As-is, where-is. I will help coordinate with your shipper, but funds must be transferred first. Or simply fly in, and drive home. I'll pick you up! CONDITIONS: $500 nonrefundable deposit due via paypal within 48 hours. Remainder to be paid in cash upon pickup. pickup must be within one week of auction's close unless other arrangements are made with me. No returns, obviously. Buyer is responsible for all applicable taxes in their home state. And no, I will not sign a bill of sale stating that the purchase price was $1. If you have less than 10 feedback scores, you MUST CONTACT ME prior to bidding or your bid will be cancelled. Sorry to insist, but selling on ebay has become more difficult. Thanks, and best of luck!
