<<<<<< PLEASE DO NOT BID IF YOU DO NOT INTEND TO BUY THE CAR>>>>>>>> These auctions cost money. The last high bidder flaked out on the auction. eBay is not a toy, it's business. I'm removing the reserve price so there won't be any confusion...... if you bid, you buy. Click on link to view additional pictures of car with descriptions: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2678545/1979-pontiac-trans-am#26785450025 1 of 2,917 4-speed/T-top Trans Ams built in 1979. PHS documents, Build Sheet and Invoice copies verify a true W72, 4-speed, WS6 car. Highly optioned with : - A/C - Intermittent wipers - AM/FM 8-track with power antenna - Power windows - Power locks - Power trunk release - Lamp group - Tilt wheel - T-tops - WS6 package(15x8 wheels, 4-wheel disc brakes, stiffer rear bushings, quick ratio steering) No rear window defroster (Florida car) nor Cruise Control (not offered with the 4-speed cars). MSRP: $9,633.55 Invoice: $8,182.19 Engine: Mostly stock, Pontiac 400 cubic inch, 6.6 Liter, 4-barrel. Block is from a '69 "B"-body (full size) Pontiac. The rest of the engine consists of the original stock '79 6X heads, crank, rods, pistons,intake/carb, manifolds and accessories. Previous owner stated the cam was a Ram Air III specification but was unsure. The original block was still available from the seller but I elected to not transport it from California to Tennessee(I flew to CA and drove the car 2,400 miles home.... yeah, I was.... East bound and down). Engine still retains all it's original equipment. Exhaust manifolds have the thermostatic flap, intake has the thermostatic vacuum switch, flex hoses, vacuum lines ..... even has the catalytic converter on the 2 downpipes into 1 converter and split dual mufflers/exhausts. The car was ordered in Florida, so it does NOT have the California emissions A.I.R. smog pump. Previous owner stated the rebuilt engine had 2,000 miles on it when I bought it in 2009. The odometer read approximately 58,128 when I picked it up. Currently at 68,583 miles. I've put about 10k miles on it in 3.5 years. <<<<>>>> Previous owner installed an early model 160 mph speedometer in place of the original 100 mph speedo. Actual mileage is unknown. Transmission: Borg Warner Super T-10. Presumed to be original, as the car is a true 4-speed car, as only the held-over-from-'78 Pontiac 400s and a few 301 engines received the 4-speed transmission in '79. Rear End: Stock Limited slip rear...... but presumed to have had the gear ratio changed from 3.23 to something more like 3.73. Calculations with tire diameter, engine RPM and speed indicate more like 3.73. Diff cover has not been removed to verify tooth count. WS6 rear disc brakes. Body: Previous owner indicated that the car was re-painted around '93. Original Nocturne Blue, but the decals were changed from Tan to Blue. He stated there was no rust, repairs or body filler applied. The California sun has baked the trunk lid and roof a little as it is rough to the touch in spots and may polish out but I haven't attempted it. The sun has also dried out the two front grilles, as they are quite brittle and broken(replacements are available in the aftermarket). The padded dash cracked on the drive home from California when my GPS fell off the windshield just about 2 hours after leaving the seller's place..... it is sun dried and brittle.... I do have a pristine, soft and supple replacement original dash pad. This is NOT a reproduction dash cap. These original dash pads are very hard to come by and VERY expensive!!! (see pics of dash pad in the link posted in ad). The dash pad can be purchased for an additional $500 IF the car sells. Do not ask to buy the dash pad, it is not for sale independant of the car. Previous History: The car was ordered from Sheehan Pontiac in Lighthouse Point, Florida(verified by invoice). Purchaser was stationed there for about 3 years and transfered to California. He sold the car to the 2nd owner sometime around '93. That's when the exterior was re-painted with the original Nocture Blue color, as the California sun was harsh on the car's paint. He later sold the car to a friend who rebuilt the engine using the '69 400 block and stock components from the original '79 400.... with the exception of the camshaft, which he believed was a Ram Air III cam. That friend sold the car back to the 2nd owner a couple years later and I purchased the car from the 2nd owner off eBay in January 2009 when he was selling his house and his various collection of cars and juke boxes. Cool fella. FLAWS: -He stated the A/C compressor needed a front seal.... it would leak down after a few weeks. I never replaced the seal. -He also said the parking brake was ineffective. I have learned that these 4-wheel disc brake cars need to have the parking brake installed every time it is stopped or the mechanism will not work correctly over time. The parking brake is still ineffective and will need adjusted. -Some paint cracks in the front urethane nose cover. -Previously mentioned brittle grilles and cracked dash pad. -3 paint bubbles on the right fender top(see pics with penny showing size). -A paint scrape on the left rear quarter about 5" long. -Roof and trunk lid have some sun-dried paint that may buff out.All flaws can be seen in the link posted above in the ad. I drove the car 2,400 miles home and used it as a weekend car and autocrossed it 2 times. Once with the local East Tennessee Region SCCA at Pellisippi State College and once with the Pro-Touring.com guys down in Cartersville, Ga (Peach State Muscle Car Challenge). Car drives and handles great. It will need a front end alignment as the front tires wore on the inside a bit(rotated to the rear). Engine is quite and has loads of torque. The 3.73 gear makes 70-80 mph highway speeds somewhere around 3,000-3,500 rpm, and the engine will get hot quickly. It definitely likes the 55-60 mph speeds better..... all daaaaay Loooong. I drove it 2400 miles home across the desert. 2500 rpm is much nicer on the engine than 3500 rpm. Everything works as it should with the noted exceptions above about the A/C compressor front seal and the parking brake. Video from inside the car showing it's awesome torque (the dash crack is barely visible in video.... it is very visible now): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgOoe8zumOo Car is in great shape structurally and mechanically. There are some paint flaws due to the California sun, but the car is completely solid and drives nicely. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ See additional payment section for details about payment. Also, if you do not have a feedback rating of 5 or greater, your bid may be canceled unless you contact me with additional contact info. Just ask for any additional pics. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ August 23 UPDATE: Car is advertised locally and on a couple Trans Am forums...... auction can end at any time. Already have two appointments to show this Friday and possibly one more on Saturday if it doesn't sell on Friday. I appologize if you bid before the car sells locally. There will be lag time before I can check my email and leave for the scheduled showings on Friday. I have been contacted by a couple Pontiac fans that have offered to sell me a date correct PWH block (complete short block). If you know anything about the values of these cars with these correct blocks, these offers should be considered if the car is purchased. I will pass on the contact info to the new owner.
