1949 PACKARD CLUB SEDAN. 2 Door, sloped back. 23rd series. Model designation is "Eight". This car starts, stops, runs and drives very well. Currently licensed and insured. 3 speed manual transmission with working 28% Borg Warner R-11 overdrive! I bought this car here on ebay in 2007. It arrived to me dead electrically and with rotten brakes. I had the electrical system repaired and correctly re-wired with a new generator, coil and voltage regulator among other components. We rebuilt and relined the entire braking system at that time as well. We found the original hubs in fine shape and that they had never been "turned" before so we think that the 63,000 miles showing on the odometer may be correct! The engine appears to have been refreshed at some point as the Packard correct paint shows better than most. The engine shows almost 40 lbs of oil pressure according to the dash gauge and does not smoke or burn oil. I believe the engine to be the strongest part of the car. We performed a complete tune up at that time as well and the car has run well since but could probably use a tune up again as I have put about 5,000 miles on the car since. All of the lights work as do the gauges (some better than others) although the gas gauge float needs to be re-calibrated. The interior has been refreshed with a very nice mohair kit as the seats and headliner are in fine shape. The carpet is in good condition but appears to be a home installed job. The body is straight and all of the bright work is present and accounted for, some in better shape than others but all there. The rear bumper appears to have been re-chromed at some point. I have upgraded some trim items like adding a "swan" hood ornament (not pictured) in the place of the "goddess of speed" ornament which will be included with the car. It has bias ply wide white wall tires that were on the car when I received it so I can't speak to their age or mileage but they hold air very well ( I did not have to add any air to the tires when I took it out this spring!) and still have some good tread on them. All of the glass is good and the front windows roll smoothly up and down but I cannot speak to the rear passenger windows other than the glass is good. The two tone maroon paint appears to be a repaint that was not very well done. There is some surface rust on the car that appears to have painted over but as you can see, it is not bad. There is an area of rust repair in the trunk and I suspect that there has been some rust repair elsewhere. This car has not seen rain for the last 5 years and has always been garaged in the dry climate of Idaho. Over my years of being an ebayer, I have seen all kinds of outrageous claims in the ads for old cars. I am not going to make these claims as I value my feedback rating too much. There is plenty good with this car and plenty of stuff that could be better. The front end could stand a rebuild as it appears to be all original and with the bias ply tires, you need two hands to drive this car. It runs in the heat just fine but does not like to sit still and idle. As long as there is air flowing through the grill, it is just fine. The car will be shipped with service manuals for the car and for the overdrive unit as well as a couple of radios (one of which has been rebuilt with some modern components and is ready to install!) This is a well loved 63 year old car that stills has years of service in her! Sold "as is" and "where is"
