Vehicle Detail
1997 Mercedes SL 500 In 1997, the SL 500's sold new for about $98,000, and we bought our 1880 farmhouse for $106,700. In 2007 we bought this vehicle in San Diego, CA, and have owned it for 5 years. This vehicle has a PA reconstructed title. Both the car and the house still need a little "fine tuning". The Body and Paint are in nice condition for a 1997. There are 2 small dings on the doors that are hardly noticeable. The Hood has a 4" long ding on the passenger side near the wiper and just up from the grill, the hood has a slight ripple in it just above grill area. These are more visible being viewed in person, than the camera will show. Even so, you do have to look carefully to see them. The front bumper has the clear coat peeling as shown in the two pictures above. The trim around the passenger side headlight is partly missing. The Hardtop is in good condition however the headliner is loose. It engages ok with a little tweaking. Folks, I am being very critical in my description, knowing most of you only have these pictures to go by. Make no mistake, this vehicle looks great in person even with the imperfections that I describe. The Soft Top is in pretty good condition. It is faded from the sun.(no known leaks) Nobody I know buys an SL to drive around in it with the Hardtop on or the Soft Top up. The power Soft Top works fine with a little hand assistance while inside. This vehicle has just been inspected in Pa. (good til 7/13) The power Rollbar works great, and has a Windscreen attachment also. Interior Pictures Review of the Issues. Maybe the largest issues with this car are the mirrors and hood/bumper There is power to the passenger side mirror and that one works. The drivers side does not move, but may have power. We just use them in the simple "Stationary Position" and you can see fine. The rear view mirror assembly "plastic casing" is cracked and came apart, and is temporarily strapped together as shown. The car runs and drives fine. It is very fast. There is a 5/8" ping on the passenger side door. There is a 4" narrow indent near the wiper/washer area on the passenger side of the hood. The clear coat is peeling on the front bumper and the plastic spoiler below is cracked. The Driver seat I set a very low reserve of $4500 on this fine vehicle. Thanks for Watching, ocnfrt On Aug-08-12 at 03:06:26 PDT, seller added the following information: For Your Info and clarification. There are no liens on this vehicle. We bought this on 6/22/2007 with a CA Salvage title. The state of PA has what is called a reconstructed title, where frame and safety equipment are thoroughly examined and tested before being declared road worthy. We had this testing done immediately after purchase, during a 5 week period of time and received a PA d.m.v. reconstructed title on 7/31/2007. There was nothing to fix. This car is and has been road worthy for us for over 5 years now, and was when we bought it. We do not understand how this ever could have received a CA salvage title, but I guess we don't understand the insurance claim business. This SL 500 starts, idles, drives and brakes great, and always did for us. You only have the cosmetics listed to worry about. The mysterious CA "title cloud" is the only reason why you can own this for this low price. Also, I lowered the reserve. Thanks for Watching. On Aug-10-12 at 03:32:23 PDT, seller added the following information:As mentioned in our ad, this roadster has been listed for sale locally. We have had several reasonable offers by those who have the advantage of looking at this in person.
