57 Replicas and Kits Speedster Body by Classic, Red / Black, 6800 Miles Replica 57 Speedster. This speedster kit was by Classic, which is a very good quality kit. It was a five year project by its builder and you will not find one like this anywhere. This car started as a 1974 Beetle and is far from it. The frame was shortened by cutting the chassis diagonally for ultimate strenght. The body is the wide body style to incorporate wider rubber. It currently has Falken tires with 205/55R15 on the front and 215/60R15 on the rear. It has a 4 wheel disc brake conversion with complete sway bars. The engine is a 2276 cc stroker engine with 94mm jugs. A new case, new 82mm stroke Scat crank along with custom rods were installed during the original build. It has Pauter straight cut timing gears, camshaft and roller rockers. It has CB performance 044 heads. It has a Porsche style fan conversion with an alternator. CB performance fuel injection makes this engine run strong along with MSD ignition AL-6 trigger distributor with heavy duty wires. The injection is adjustable from the cockpit, there is an extended oil sump and a custom oil cooler mounted in the left rear fender. That utilizes an oil thermostat with an electric fan. Complete AN lines with fittings as well. A new high torgue starter was installed in the intial build. The transmission is rebuilt and has a custom heavy duty welded mount with a short throw Gene Berg shifter with reverse lock out. The car was completely straightened and block sanded. It is probably the straightest fiberglass vehicle ever. The Porsche Red paint cost $10,000. It had brand new Speedster emblems, front grills, mirrors and lights installed during the intial build. New seats and black carpeting along with a custom powder coated roll bar custom stereo iPod cable, high range and low range amps and woofer box were installed by the second owner. The box is on quick disconnects and can be removed in 15mins and rear seat cushion can be placed where box sat. Porsche style VDO gauges and wood steering wheel are also a nice added touch. The windshield has a little de-laminating in the right side but still looks ok. It comes with a convertible top and new side windows but who would buy this car and not have the top down. It starts up and runs super, it takes a few minutes for the large amount of oil to heat up, once that happens it runs pretty much perfect. The throttle response from the fuel injeciton is unmatched. DO EXPECT tons of people to looking and drooling as you pass by them, then occasionally a few people following you into parking lots to ask you questions. This one has the BEST of EVERYTHING no corner cut!! Ready just adjust the mirrors and turn the key for a great day!!
