1949 Bentley Mk VI, Aluminum Body by H.J. Mulliner & Co. Ltd. First let me say that I am listing this for an older client. Due to illness, age and the economy he has asked me to handle the listings for him. I will try and list everything to the best of my ability. Please contact me with any questions and I will try and respond promptly. Hello... You are bidding on a 1949 Bentley Mk VI, Aluminum Body by H.J. Mulliner & Co. Ltd.. It has a 4 ¼ liter engine. This vehicle was purchased by my client a few years ago with the intentions of completing the restoration. Health and age has determined that he will not be able to start on the project. No work has been done on the Bentley, he did purchase some additional parts that may be needed in the completion of the restoration. As I do not know a whole lot about Bentleys I will provide the following for your review: From the previous owner’s description "One of only 301 Mulliner-coachwork Bentley Mk VI chassis built, Mulliner body no. 5073. Original color was burgundy. RHD, floor shift, 4.2L dual-carb engine with serial no. B 245 E (probably the original engine). Body is aluminum. Runs and drives. Unfinished older (partial) restoration. Paint is in very good condition, with just a few chips and blemishes. LH inner fender torn, RH inner fender missing, front group misaligned, tail-lamp housing unrestored. Chassis straight and relatively rust-free." I did a little research on the Bentley Mk VI. From what I found “Original Polls-Royce & Bentley 1946-65” , (The Restorer’s Guide to the “stand” saloons and mainstream coachbuilt derivatives) by James Taylor, I would like to add: This publication has a whole chapter devoted to the Bentley Mk VI. Also on page page 153 “Coachbuilt Bodies” I found that H.J. Mulliner Co built 299 chassis bodied Bentley of which 13 were drophead coupes (I think that is a convertible). Back then most Bentleys had custom made bodies put on the Bentley Chassis. According to this publication this Mk VI is an E Series. There were only 47 E series produced and 4 of these were drophead. That leaves 43 saloons of which B490EY (this Bentley) is one, making it a relatively rare item. H.J. Mulliner was also the first coachbuilder to use extruded Reynolds Metal (aluminum) framing and body panels. As you can see in the pictures overall the vehicle is in pretty good condition. Many parts are included (more than shown in pictures), plus a copy of Bentley Mk VI Workshop Manual. This Bentley runs, drives and stops. This 4 ¼ Liter engine appears to have been restored. Please look at the pictures to make your determination of this Bentley,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Clear Ohio title states mileage (79,745) is believed to be accurate. Chassis # B490EY Engine # B245E HJ Mulliner Body # 5073 To our knowledge this vehicle has always been stored indoors. A great find of a rare Aluminum Mk VI Bentley. Low Reserve Price (below my client’s purchase price). Email me with questions. Please have funds available if you win this car. Thanks for looking. International Buyers email me before bidding.
