Vehicle Detail

1972 Fiat 500L with Sunroof It is with regret that we are offering our beloved Fiat for auction. Of all the cars we have owned, including a Citroen 2CV, Triumph TR3A, MG Midget and a host of others, whenever we are asked which car has been our favorite, it is always the Fiat 500, hands down. Just to remind you, this is the "L" model, which I suppose means luxury. That means you get a courtesy light on the rear view mirror, which is activated by opening the driver's door and the heat, which actually is far superior to most British cars of that era, which resembles puppy breath, both in temperature and odor. Not so with the Fiat. We bought the car from a fellow in Arizona, in 2005. We had it shipped to Kansas City and after my mechanic went through the car and pronounced it mechanically sound, we had it repainted the original, deep blue metallic. Next, we installed new seat covers, rebuilt the seats and new carpeting with Abarth floor mats. The car comes with the new rear seat cover, which did not need replacing. We added a black and white, checkerboard sunroof and the little car was ready for prime time. The car has been regularly serviced, only having to replace a fuel pump, a couple of years ago. That's it. We have put very little mileage on the car, because we at one point owned nine cars and we drive them all. Contrary to popular belief, this little car (and, I do mean little) has been the most reliable. It starts readily, drives perfectly and has NEVER left us stranded. An added feature of this fabulous car is that you never have to worry about losing the keys; there aren't any. When we received the car, the ignition key had been replaced with a toggle switch. You flip the switch, pull up the choke lever between the seats and pull up the lever next to it (the starter) and away you go. We were going to replace the toggle switch, but it adds to the quirkiness of the car, and so it stayed. If you have questions, please ask. The car is priced reasonably, because we bought it cheap and it has been no expense to us, other than that which is mentioned above. Best of luck on owning this great car!
