Vehicle Detail
Vehicle History: Up for auction is our 2001 Eurovan MV in a rare Sari Yellow (code LN1G) color not offered in North America. I purchased this van in October 2009 from an individual seller with 30,000 miles in Detroit MI. According to the seller, this van had been shown at the 2001 Detroit Auto Show, as part of VW's display highlighting the model year 2001 changes to the Eurovans sold in North America. VWOA then titled the van to Children's Institute of Detroit where the gentleman worked, where it was equipped and used for a time as a wheelchair lift van to move the children to and from the hospital. The Institute sold the van to the previous owner in June 2009 with approximately 27,000 miles and he had the wheelchair lift removed and used it very briefly as a part time work van. I purchased the van shortly afterwards as he decided the van was too nice and the upkeep too expensive for his needs. I have not validated the bit about being in the Detroit Auto show except to note it would explain the unusual European-only color and that VWOA is still listed as the owner of the van in dealer records (this can be changed with a phone call but I never bothered). Reason for Selling: This is our second Eurovan, our first was an 01 GLS that performed flawlessly. After a hiatus from Eurovans I decided that with a busy family with four children this would again be the perfect vehicle and it has not disappointed. However as kids get older their activities take them in separate directions and I find myself driving this family transporter with only one or two passengers, or worse by myself commuting to work. Also now that I have one teenager driving and have had to add a vehicle for him (no way he gets the Eurovan!) I've decided now is the time to further optimize our vehicle mix and pass this on to another family that can better make use of its capabilities. Warranty: When I purchased this van it was intended to be our primary go-to vehicle and as such I made the decision to purchase a 4yr/48K mile warranty for the van, the remainder of which will be transferred at my expense to the next owner. It is good until 78000 miles or 10/21/2013, whichever comes first. Mechanical Condition: I serviced this van per VWOA's requirements, and all of the trouble spots typical of the Eurovan have been addressed under my ownership. Due to the service history and the relatively low miles this van drives very tightly and all the systems work as designed. Below is a table summarizing the service history of the van. A full rear mat has protected the carpet and regular shampooing of the seats has them looking great also. There is a single cigarette burn on the driver's seat from early in the van's history. Evidence of the van's previous use as a wheelchair-equipped van exist in the form of a cutout in the plastic trim on the side entry and a plugged electrical connection in the floor. The tracks for the mechanism are the only part of the apparatus remaining, and they are covered by the rear mat and do not affect the use of the pull-out bed. They can be removed from underneath the van by simply removing the subflooring; they never bothered me enough to take time from my busy schedule to deal with it. The exterior of the van is also very presentable, I use Zaino wax products and have kept the paint cleaned and polished during my ownership. I've taken pictures in a few different light settings to try to show the nice shine of the paint. However, this van has seen tens of thousands of miles on long commutes and many road trips, and some resulting cosmetic blemishes are inevitable. I made a decision last December to have the hood repainted to take care of pretty severe road rash accrued during our ownership, and to clean up a rust bubble behind the front left wheel and a gouge by the right rear taillight. At the same time I had the two front grills painted black to break up the monochromatic paint scheme. This paint work was not a 'buy here pay here" job but neither was it a $2500 multistage/multi-day job either, in keeping with the intended daily use of the van and its overall value as a used vehicle. The new owner will need to decide whether to live with the slight paint mismatch (due to weathering on the fenders) between the hood and fenders or to have the butt joints blended in with the extra Dupont paint I have on hand. I've tried to capture the difference in the pictures. The previous owner painted the bottom seams flat black (over the existing paint) and the new owner may want to address that as well by either brushing some new black or removing it with a Scotch-Brite pad. I have ordered a new set of factory grills in black to replace the ones that were painted as I am not happy with the way the they have held up under use and I want the new owner to be happy with the look. Fine Print: I've done my best to describe this van honestly and accurately. I encourage you or your agent to inspect the van prior to purchase. Payment in full is expected within 10 days of purchase - we will execute a simple Bill of Sale indicating you bought the van as-is/where-is, it's yours, done deal. The title is at my credit union in downtown Indianapolis and will be transferred to the new owner after payment clears - or immediately if you or your agent meet me at my credit union with cash or a cashier's check that will clear immediately. I reserve the right to end the auction for ANY reason including I sell it locally, I change my mind, or I don't like the way the bidding is going. If you have questions email me through ebay and I will get back to you with my email address and phone number. On Jul-09-12 at 20:04:04 PDT, seller added the following information:Friends - thanks for the many email inquiries - some answers to common questions: (1) The rear carpet is still covered by the original plastic which is kind of gnarly but the carpet is untouched - sorry for the poor lighting in the picture (2) The warranty is through Route 66, which sells through banks and credit unions - it is a stated component warranty, one level below the platinum/ultimate/bumper-bumper warranty. It covers all the lubricated parts and driven parts, plus many suspension components. It paid for the AC compressor/labor, fuel injector repair/labor, and kicked in a good amount for the cam adjuster as good will. I've had a few aftermarket warranties and I would definitely buy from them again. (3) In mixed suburban/highway driving I get 17-20 MPG. On trips, 70-80mph, I have seen 23-24 mpg. It has a 21 gallon tank and requires premium (you can use lower grades but the engine management will reduce power slightly to prevent pre-ignition so it's really a wash). This mpg is higher than the average EPA rating but is not atypical for other Eurovan owners - it's not an Accord but better than a full-size SUV which is the closest comparison as far as interior space. (4) I appreciate the email offers I have received and some are very tempting. The van is listed locally in Craigslist as well and has received some inquiries. I am inclined to let the auction run, but in the spirit of Wash Hogwallup, they got this depression on and I got to do for me and mine - bid early and bid high!
