Vehicle Detail
Nice Dodge M-880 (actualy an M-885 as originally issued) for sale. 19,246 original miles (not many at all).I bought the truck in summer 2010 from a Fire Department in ME and had it shipped down to me in the hopes of having a great truck project. The truck was purchased from the military in 1986 by the townand then served as the Brush/rescue truck for the town until Fall 2009 when it was replaced with a new vehicle. I purchased it from them directly. I had the truck trailered down to my house on a flatbed from ME (if you need to get a quote to do the same, let me know as the guy I used was good and not too much $$$). If you aren't familiar with the machine, here's some specific info:2500lb payload (yes, a 5/4 or 1.25 ton truck!)This one is a 12v system (single battery/alternator) though some were issued at 24v (not this one)318ci with a single 2bbl carbDana 44 and Dana 60 axlesNO POWER STEERING (they weren't issued with this (from what I can tell) but many have them it and it is an easy add on)O(Civilian Utility Cargo Vehicle) so it uses mostly off the shelf Dodge W200 partsFull time 4x4 (can't turn it off...hi, low, or locked)NYS title (trust me, this was a pain to get....not so easy to register an out-of-state emergency vehicle that wasn't issued a title ever in its home state!)You can find more info on the machines here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commercial_Utility_Cargo_Vehiclebut there is a lot of info out there that is more specific.A decided lack of time due to a long work commute has really impacted my ability to work on the truck and now my wife and I are expecting our first child so I can't keep the truck anymore (need something more practical that my wife can also drive in a pinch and I KNOW I won't have the time to work on it). It starts, runs and drives well and I've not done anything serious in the time I've had it (but then again I've only put about 20 miles on it of the last 2 years). I've changed out the bad bulbs (tailights/blinkers), replaced the headlights, oil/air filters, removed the old hose racks and SUPER HEAVY water tank that was in the back but otherwise it is as I received the truck. The NYS registration expired in June and there are a couple of things you'd need to do for inspection (backup-up lights are on a switch, dome sirens/flashers need to come off, and a wiper linkage bar needs to be re-attached to the passenger side wiper). I also have the Haynes manual that I'll include. I'd really like to see the truck go to someone who will appreciate it and put it to good use, ideally not part it out (though if you have the time, go for it....the wheels and tires are worth a fiar bit on their own) but what you do with it after you buy it is up to you. Bed, body, frame and interior are all solid (a few dents and one 3-4" spot of rust), some surface rust on the undercarriage but it's been inside in the FD garage and covered since I've had it and is in solid shape. FYI, I've started it and checked the fluids every month. On Jul-05-12 at 15:57:31 PDT, seller added the following information: REVISION: Some viewers of the listing (Thanks for looking!) have been a bit confused by my choice of words regarding the 4-wheel drive system. The truck uses an NP203 transfer case which is ONLY full time 4-wheel drive (hubs are always locked). The 5 settings are lo, lo-lock, neutral, high, high-lock. There are aftermarket kits to convert (mile marker, others) to un-lockable hubs but this truck is stock/original in this regard and the front hubs are always engaged. Sorry if my choice of words was confusing. On Jul-06-12 at 05:24:17 PDT, seller added the following information: Revision 2:07/6: I added a number of additional pictures that I took this morning. I've some questions about the cab floor, the rust hole I mention in the main description, and superficial rust on the frame/running gear. THe rust hole is ~4"x4" and is on the passenger side in front of the door, but before the fender panel. THere is also a much smaller spot developing on the driver's side in the same location and I've added a picture of that as well. I've taken pictures of the cab floor, front and back, as well as one door floor (they are in similar shape and I can't remember which I took and uploaded but can likely tell by looking at it?). I"ve also taken a shot of the passenger wheel well (in front of the rust spot, to show it isn't rusted through from there back), the frame, axles, and front suspension (I think that shot is from the driver's side if I remember. Additionally I added ful length shots to show the body straightness and a seperate shop of the dent on the passenger side door/cab. I hope this helps and thank you all for your interest. I'll do my best to answer any questions I can.On Jul-06-12 at 05:29:01 PDT, seller added the following information: CORRECTION: The door sill picture is the passenger side, but the wheel well is on the driver's side. The passenger side is in similar condition. Also, there is no capital "H" in either "The" or "There" despite the e-bay spell-checker's vocabulary. I apologize for all my earlier typos.
