Vehicle Detail
1983 Mercedes 240D 2.4 L OM616 I4 Diesel Engine 72 PS 53kW 71HP @ 4400 101 LB-FT @2400 MANUAL TRANSMISSION W123 Chassis ***PHOTO OF CALIFORNIA TITLE WAS ADDED BECAUSE AUTOCHECK IS ERRONEOUSLY STATING VIN# IS INCORRECT*** We are selling this vehicle primarily because we just bought my daughter’s car in order to help her and her family out of a tough financial situation and we just do not have room for FOUR cars…so this one needs a new home! My husband bought this car used and had it shipped to PA from California a few years ago. His intention was to run it on BIO-FUEL but never actually did, primarily because it gets an economical 30 MPG, unmodified, making the 240D a GREAT commuter car. Overseas, the 240D is often found serving as taxicabs because of their workhorse reliability and luxurious but durable interior finishes. Many of these Mercedes diesels run for 1,000,000…yes, I said 1 MILLION miles…so this diesel is just getting broken in at 225,000 miles!!! This car is ideal for the shade-tree mechanic as it has no electronic parts and is therefore immune to so many of the problems that plaque today’s vehicles and keep you running back to the dealership…This is one reason my husband is so reluctant to let it go… The car runs great, starts right up…first time every time…It has NEVER left us stranded! It is a MANUAL TRANSMISSION and is equipped with automatic windows, sunroof and vacuum powered door locks. Additionally a Sony aftermarket stereo is installed and works great. There are a few mechanical issues that should be pointed out… The most major issue is a MINOR radiator leak that has been present for as long as we have owned the car…it requires an occasional top off of fluid but has not been a problem for us which is why we have never had it fixed. The A/C also does not blow cold air…we THINK it is due to a leak! One of the door locks does not function properly…The windshield washer fluid motor does not spray properly so it either needs a new motor or the line unclogged… We own other high-end vehicles, but THIS car is the one that starts parking lot conversations. It is in great shape because it is made of a heavy gauge of sheet metal NOT found in today’s vehicles. Cosmetically, there are very few issues…There is a VERY SMALL amount of surface rust that a DIYer could handle in a weekend! Two dings accompanied the car when it arrived from California…one on the bottom of driver’s side door (visible in the photo) and one on the lip of the trunk (right above the second “e” in diesel). Neither detracts from the look of the car…On the interior there are some minor cracks in the wood grain trim (typical for the age of the car) and the dashboard is cracked…a common fix for this is to add a $60 dash pad cover, but this never bothered my husband enough to fix. New battery, new shift boot installed (seen missing in one interior photo), recently replaced brakes, good tires with plenty of tread…will pass PA safety inspection and due to its age is EXEMPT from emissions inspection. The car has a pretty extensive service history from the original owner and the original manuals and literature are also included. We have a few spare parts that will also be included in the sale. We have the car for sale locally for $1999.00 or Best Offer and reserve the right to end the auction early for a qualified local buyer. If you would like to come see the vehicle please email me and we will make an appointment for a test drive. Over the years I have sold over 20 vehicles for friends and family on EBay with 100% feedback satisfaction…I have listed as much information on the 240 D as possible but if you have ANY additional questions PLEASE contact me and I will do my best to answer them quickly accurately and HONESTLY!!! Thanks for looking…We will also soon be listing our 1998 BMW 528iA in Montreal Blue. jamz@jamz.tv
