Vehicle Detail
You are looking at my 1969 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Convertible. I purchased this car through ebay in July of 2003 and have treasured her ever since, but it's time to let her go to a better home. In the almost 9 years that I've owned her, I have put less than 1000 miles on her, since the Texas summers are so hot and winters cold, it only leaves a small window for convertible cruising season. She has been registered in Texas as an antique car and the collectors insurance that I have requires that she be kept in a closed garage when not in use - so no sun, rain, or snow has been pelting this car since 2003. This car has won a few trophies from local car shows, so she really shows well! Here are some details about the car:Strong 351 Cleveland engine was in place when I got it - originally came with 351 W.3-Speed Automatic FMX transmission is solid - gets second-gear chirps every time - without even trying!Exterior color is a Pontiac red and was painted by the owner before me - a few chips, but no sun-fade. car was originally burgundy.Interior is white and black (as seen in pics) - originally Saddle tanWhite top is in fantastic shape and was also replaced just prior to my ownership. Back window is perfect.Chrome is very nice all over - badges are all original, including the XR-7 on the trunk that I had to locate and re-apply. Items that I've replaced during my ownership include (have reciepts for most of this - will include in sale)New suspension armsNew Exhaust system - sounds great!New Rear Leaf SpringsNew shocks and springs on frontNew oil pan (painted red)New fuel sending unitNew WaterpumpNew Power steering pulleys and mountsNew Chrome alternatorNew BF Goodrich TA Radials sitting on VINTAGE Cragar S/S mags - those are NOT cheap imitations - they are the real thing!Replaced sticky door locks and ignition with new Chrome valve covers, Ford Racing oil vent filter, and chrome brake fluid cap.Chrome one-piece engine bay roll stabilizerNew distributor and ignition coilSummit racing chrome air cleaner (have the original blue one in original shape - will be included in the trunk of car)New Cougar custom floor matsNew Optima BatteryFixed two power window motors that did not work - now all 4 work fineFixed Sequential turn signals that did not workFixed headlamp doors that would not open/close due to vacuum leak Issues with the car (yes, you knew there would be some)If left unstarted for a few days, the battery will die. I think the aftermarket stereo (installed by previous owner) may be the culprit. I just remove the negative cable when not in use.Car just started pulling to the left a few weeks ago - probably in need of an alignment.Clock doesn't keep timeAir conditioning works but isn't cold - needs a recharge.Thermostat isn't sending temperature - probably a loose wire or wiring issue.Power Convertible top has become "tired" - it opens just fine but needs some assistance when closing.Shifter button is broken off. Has been since I got her. I just put tape on it and it's fine. I will include a replacement T-shifter that I acquired and never got around to installing. So there it is. Please look at the pictures as they tell the story better than I can. She's a beauty and needs a good home. I bought her in 2003 from Arizona and was told that she'd been an Arizona car most of her life with no rust that I've ever found and she is a lot of fun to drive. I have acquired quite a few extras that I will include in the car when it is shipped including:A complete replacement dash - not just the panel, the WHOLE dash and panelOriginal air cleanerReplacement T-shifterand any of the other original items that I can find. Lastly, this car was featured in a television/web commercial for the "Seatbrella" product last September. Here is a link to it and it helps to show how great the car looks in motion! Make sure to watch to the end!! THANK YOU FOR LOOKING! http://www.pixelpopsdesign.net/seatbrella/ SHIPPING WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PURCHASER. PAYMENT IS DUE WITHIN 5 DAYS OF AUCTION END. THIS CAR IS 43 YEARS OLD AND I'VE DESCRIBED THE POSITIVES AND NEGATIVES AS THOROUGHLY AS POSSIBLE SO YOU ARE BUYING THIS CAR AS IS, WITH NO WARRANTY, AND NO RETURNS. THANK YOU!! On May-23-12 at 17:13:11 PDT, seller added the following information: LISTING ADDITIONS: I am adding a few notes to the listing above, but since there are bids already, I have to add them as a revision. Other Known issues - windshield wipers function but the blades aren't connected to the arms - the connector piece is missing. Also, the strap that keeps the glove compartment from falling open all the way is missing, so the glove compartment flops all the way upside down 180 degrees. Other Improvements - forgot to mention the anti-sway bar that I installed on the underside of the vehicle. It is shown in one of the added underside pictures.
