Vehicle Detail

Original 4-speed (on the floor). New white paint. Black interior. New black top This is a European version = all chrome bumpers, solid quartz headlights, manual shift, etc. Perhaps only 300 out of 954 were manual shift. How many made it to the U.S.? This vehicle was built as a coupe (by hand) in Stuttgart for the European market as a coupe (euro spec.). Sometime early in the 1980's a creative owner (ill advised eccentric) imported this to the U.S. and professionally removed the hardtop! We found it in a garage where it had been for over 25 years. We were going to use it as a parts car but found it to be too straight and have too many good features in good condition to "part" it. We had access to enough parts from a 1967 W111 023 convertible (Mercedes 250SE) and have painstakingly recreated this fine vehicle! We have utilized original parts, the most skilled and experienced professionals. The car was dismantled. The frame and body where corrected to Mercedes - Benz standards. Yes, the frame was strengthened properly. Yes, we did find a little surface rust here-and-there and all was eliminated. The body is extremely straight! It has been repainted the original color (bone white) and is excellent. Note the rare chrome, wheel-well, trim and white steering wheel. (All original!) We replaced the engine with the vastly superior 1969 Mercedes - Benz 2.8 liter, low mileage, mechanically fuel injected, engine with the matching four-speed manual shift. (Note the original sticker on the valve cover). All the mechanical work was done by the person whom you'd prefer: "Herman" grew-up in Stuttgart, worked at the Mercedes S factory in the1960's and 1970's. He went through and installed this engine and the new clutch in Spokane in 2010. He also went through all the electrical and lights. (Yes, we have all the paperwork from Herman for your verification). This has lots of power. It runs and drives great! She drives beautifully! However, it smokes a bit due to the l cold start seal for M130 980 engine (correct for w111.024 280SE/C)? OR M129 981 engine (correct for w111.021 250SE/C) needing replacement. Both are part of the upper engine seal kit ($225 dealer). But you can make the flange seal from stock available from NAPA. The fuel sending unit has ceased to function - may need replacement or simply a new cork buoy.. The frame for the convertible top is from a 1967 Mercedes 250SE. All the correct chrome trim, attachment pieces, trim on top of the windshield and all around have been properly installed. The new canvas was manufactured for a 250SE in Germany by Sonnenland (regarded as the very best) and installed August of 2011. We have made every effort to find and use only 100% Mercedes - Benz W111 / OEM parts. There are many new parts: - new windshield - new headlights - new fuel pump - new muffler - new brakes - new carpets - newer Michelin X tires. The 250 Cab is every bit as luxurious as a 3.5 cab, and can be had at much more affordable price. Driving one would notice little difference. Amazingly, there were even fewer 250SE Cabs produced than 280SE 3.5s. The six cylinder models are easier to maintain and represent the best of both worlds. This marvelous car is in very good condition but not a show car (a couple of tiny scratches in the paint; the front bumpers have some small dents; the chrome trim has ptting, the wood around the instruments / windshield is fair to very good and needs some minor restoration; the wool headliner needs to be replaced; the leather door panels are excellent but the original seats were recovered (correctly) in vinyl; There are a few trim pieces in the interior and on the windshield that we have and are to be installed). I do have an additional restored wood trim set that will be included in the sale of this vehicle. As aficionados know, Mercedes built only 954 250 SE convertibles. But here is is number 955! Only one we are aware of for sale any where at any price. (Only 1,390 280 SE's convertibles were ever built). Rare, hand built Mercedes have a great advantage over many other luxury cars investments. They are VERY reliable and mechanical parts are easily obtainable. Original W111 convertibles are easily selling for $60,000 to $90,000+. Even for the those with ugly color combinations! Here is your chance to own a very beautiful investment at a great price that you can actually drive. Enjoy driving it as it appreciates!
