1969 Mercedes Benz 280 SL (280SL) Red Pagoda 113 Chassis, includes matching HARDTOP. It's not too early to plan for a fun and enjoyable summer with a classic Mercedes roadster! Look at the pictures I’ve included with the listing – these pics were taken within the last two weeks so what you see is what you get. There is little doubt that this car is a pretty one. The red is appealing, but not flashy and the chrome shines nicely. It has always been garaged when not in use. It’s a great ride, not one to hide in a museum. Here are the facts. Before it was purchased, we had a Vintage Mercedes SL expert look it over and we got the OK, this is a “good one”. The car is great for the week-end drive to the golf course, to the beach, for a ride up the coast, or on some winding back country roads. It’s pushing 50 years old and since it’s a good driver; it has some ‘personality’, but no fatal flaws. It runs nice; she starts right up, runs well and drives strong. If you look hard you’ll find some minor flaws, but look at the pictures, she presents herself very well and looks beautiful. As far as rust goes, its practically rust free: the rocker panels, wheel wells and doors look good. The trunk, a usual sore spot for these cars, has been sealed correctly and had one small rust issue professionally patched. There is some evidence of previous rust on the front floor under the car but it has been well contained and addressed. The interior is very nice. The carpets were replaced a couple years ago and are in great shape. The seats appear to be the originals, the leather is in very nice shape and the seats are comfortable. The dash wood is in nice condition, the door panels are good, but not showroom. The gauges are functional except for the odometer. The aftermarket radio is a Kenwood AM/FM Cassette . Like I said, she shows a few chips and a couple dings, but unless you were looking for them, you’ll miss most of them. The black soft top is a couple of years new, and the top’s frame is in excellent working condition. The matching red hard top is in good shape and comes with its own stand and cover. The rear brakes were completely rebuilt a couple years ago. The tires are new along with a new muffler last year. It’s ready to go. It has a very minor leak from the automatic transmission, but not enough to warrant the expense to have it fixed. She hums at 70mph and turns more heads than I can count. It carries 2 sets of clubs easily, even with the spare tire, and is comfortable to get in and out of! The previous owner did not spend a lot of money trying to make a great car perfect, but used and cared for it as though they were protecting a family heirloom. And that’s what it is.
