Vehicle Detail
Please read carefully to get the details. This is a 1988 Toyota Supra Turbo with a removable sport top. This vehicle does not run. It is my opinion it does not necessarily need to be a parts car because I have replaced alot of components on it. Here is the story: I bought the vehicle several years ago and drove it for two years. It was an absolute joy to drive, especially with the top off. It started to have problems that I believe were from the turbo. Because the turbo alone is quite expensive and the vehicle had 180,000 miles at the time, I elected to change the engine to a "low mileage" Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) engine complete with turbo from JDM Engine Depot. They do not quote mileage, but assure buyers their engines have approximately 50,000 miles. You can research the JDM process to learn more. After a year on that engine, it started running hot, which I assume is a blown head gasket on this newer engine. As Supra lovers know, BHG is a common MKIII Supra problem from the factory but once repaired, does not usually repeat. The mechanic who attempted to repair it did not get it right and went out of business before I could force a remedy. He did say the engine was extremely clean and I saw the head after it was machined and it looked great. I also believe he did not get the cam timing right or the chain skipped a tooth, which is one reason it will not run. It may need an ignitor, which you can usually get used on Ebay for less than $100. It is simple to replace. The mechanic also replaced the radiator and water pump to make up for his problems. At the time I replaced the engine, I also added a new clutch, lightweight flywheel, and brakes. I had hoped to make this a light restoration project, but it has been in my garage for two years now and I do not have the money or time to do it. All this is to say that the car has some problems, but it also has a ton of new parts on it. I do not know the vehicle's full history, only that it ran great for me and looked pretty good when I got it. It was very fast. The body is in decent shape, but the paint is a little oxidized and there are some small cracks where I assume there was light damage at some point. According to the history report, it was in an accident in 1995, so I assume that is when it was last painted. The interior is ok with normal wear for its age. It has never had a glove box as long as I have had it and the air conditioning buttons are faded. The passenger power window works, but at times needs help to raise. Everything else was fine when I parked it, including the air conditioner, radio, cruise control, etc. There is no reserve on this auction and the starting bid is barely higher than what it would bring in salvage or scrap. The winning bidder must pay a deposit of $100 by Paypal within 24 hours of auction end. The balance is to be paid by cash within 7 days and the car must be picked up at my house and trailered. I will not arrange for shipping. Finally, please note the car registration in Alabama has not been renewed since 2008, so it is possible that a new owner would have to pay back taxes which are very low due to its age. The last time I renewed the tag, the total cost was $88 and only a portion of that was for taxes.
