Vehicle Detail

47 Pictures! Take the time to read the description while you wait for the photos at the bottom to load: Runs and Drives, original California black plate daily driver car until 1990. Ideal father and son first car project! Time to move out some toys, we’re buying a house and some things just have to go. I have a 1964 Lotus Elan series 1 roadster project with original engine for sale in my other auctions :-( NO Reserve, car runs and drives and has clear title with current plates and tabs but needs going through and restoring. This has been a dry California car until a year ago when it was brought up to Washington state. We just woke it up from a 22 year slumber, now this 1965 Mustang runs and drives and has the desirable factory air conditioning option. I’ve cleaned it up for the photos and changed the oil but a thorough detail and safety inspection is recommended before you make this your daily driver. Body It obviously needs paint. The car has been resprayed once and the paint underneath is original. This car has some surface rust, but otherwise is a solid restoration or daily driver car. Inspections will reveal a quarter panel and hood replacement at some time in the past but the overall body is straight with only a couple localized rust spots (visible on the right door lower front and a silver dollar sized spot on the floor in that area too) but otherwise it is good and sound everywhere else. Please don’t look at the hood and judge the car for soundness based on the hood rust. The hood on this car is not original (red paint on the underside) so that is why this hood has an unusually irregular amount of rust with respect to the overall condition of this mustang. This is not a cancer rot car at all - far from it; the frame rails, trunk floors, lower quarters, rockers and torque boxes are all sound and in good structural condition. I have a paint stripped and clean ‘65 hood that will be included with your new Mustang. I would imagine the original hood was lightly damaged because the grill does have a couple small kinks/repaired damage spots but the header panel looks original and the radiator is original and complete down to the rare AC only radiator fan shroud. Original trim pieces on the car are intact and straight with only normal bumper dings that happen through time. The spare tire cargo area is dusty with surface rust starting and evidence of a previous repair to the left rear taillight/quarter panel area (see pics). If I were to keep this car I personally would strip the car of paint and repair any past work to show quality and repaint. If your goal is an early Mustang daily driver that you can work on here and there as time/money permit then this is the car for you. It runs and drives right now but needs a carb rebuild (at least a good cleaning-it’s been sitting for 22 years) to make it daily driver reliable and some items replaced for safety because while the desert is good for preserving metal cars and keeping rust away, it is not good for old rubber brake lines, fan belts, seals, etc. Interior The interior is in stock condition but showing its’ 40 year old age. The front seats look original although this car could have had a seat reupholster job at some time in the past, an expert would know. The back seats look original and are in good condition for the age-one small seam split on the seat area. Glass is all good and intact with Ford scripts showing although the window seals should be replaced. Dash is good and the lights and gauges work. The headlight switch is faulty but a replacement headlight switch is included with your new Mustang. Miles say 65,000 (it is a ’65 Mustang after all…) but I’m going to state the mileage is likely 165k as the pedal wear and ignition switch area wear supports a 165000 mile car as opposed to a 65k or 265k car. Replace the seat upholstery and dash pad yourself after studying the easy online tutorials and put in a rear parcel shelf then decide if you want to replace the headliner or not and this interior will be presentable as a daily driver after paint touch ups and a good ‘ol polishing and detail. Mechanical The car starts every time with a little priming and does not leak any oil but the transmission does leak so plan on replacing the driveshaft yoke seal. I learned the hard way the fuel tank has internal rust so that needs to be replaced but in the meantime I rigged up a separate fuel source and pressurized the oil system before starting it up and she fired up for the first time in 20+ years with some carb priming. There is engine (lifter?) noise but that goes away after the first couple minutes-normal for a car that has been sitting. I’m not a mechanic so I don’t know what the compression is. You’re welcome to have the car inspected by a competent shop or trusted mechanic before bidding if you have any concerns at all. The brake pedal initially went to the floor freely and didn’t pump up (which is probably why the car was taken off the road) so I replaced the original manual brake master cylinder and now the car stops (but it’s definitely not like a power brake car!) The original brake master cylinder is included with the car. Radiator coolant is good with no coolant leaks and the engine sits and idles at a steady temperature. The car comes with the original air conditioning unit still hooked up and you can see and hear the compressor clutch kick in when you turn on the AC but it definitely needs recharging. Heater and fan works, etc. Details Clean and clear title in hand, call if you have any questions Jim 2O6 725-6OOO. Since this ’65 Mustang is for sale locally I reserve the right to end the auction early. Around the block test drives are welcomed if you visit to inspect the car before purchase. A $500 Paypal deposit is due within 2 business days to secure your interest in this car after winning it and full balance is due within 10 business days after auction end. If you are mailing payment just mail it Priority mail with signature return receipt. Your new Pony car is located in Seattle, WA 98188 and I would prefer the winner to pick up the car or have your shipper pick it up but if you need some time to arrange shipping after you win it I'll store your new car for a couple weeks with full payment until you can come get it or arrange shipping. Towing/trailering is recommended to take your new Mustang home as I wouldn’t drive even across town without new brake lines and belts. It’s a manual brake car so you have to stand on the pedal to stop and it’s only a matter of time before one of the dried out brake lines goes out. It would be beneficial to both parties to talk live after the auction ends to arrange final details so expect a phone call Sunday night after you win it. Please email if you have any questions after Sunday; I’ll be unavailable for twelve days after the auction ends but we can schedule a time in the evening and I’ll call during that time if you have any pressing concerns I can’t help you with through email. Clear title and bill of sale will be given to you with car or sent via mail after payment is received. If you've never bought a car on eBay before email me and we'll talk to get your research questions answered so you will feel comfortable before you bid. Since this auction ends on a Sunday night when everyone will be home there will be last minute bidders trying to steal your new vintage Mustang away from you so bid wisely and use ebay's Proxy Bid system to your advantage.
