UP FOR SALE IS MY 1956 OLDS SUPER 88. I HAVE LOWERED THE RESERVE THIS TIME AROUND AND I ALSO WILL NOT ACCEPT BIDS IF YOU HAVE LESS THAN 10 TRANSACTIONS ! I AM THE FIFTH OWNER OF THIS OLDS HAVING PURCHASED IT (OFF OF EBAY) IN 2008.THE ORIGINAL OWNER BOUGHT IT NEW IN LOS ANGELES FROM KAISER BROTHERS ON 11-18-55. IT THEN WENT TO THE SECOND OWNER (SOMETIME IN 92), ALSO IN CALIFORNIA (SAN DIMAS).THE CAR THEN JUMPED STATE LINES TO MAYPEARL,TEXAS IN 1998. FROM THERE IT WENT TO THE MAN I PURCHASED IT FROM WHO TOOK POSSESSION OF IT IN 2003 IN COLORADO. I AM FORTUNATE TO HAVE DOCUMENTATION FROM EACH OWNER THAT WILL COME WITH THE PURCHASE. INCLUDES ORIGINAL OWNERS MANUAL. THE LAST OWNER RESTORED THE VEHICLE VERY NEARLY TO ITS PRESENT CONDITION AND DID A FANTASTIC JOB. ALL RECEIPTS ARE PRESENT FOR THE WORK THAT WAS DONE THEN, ALONG WITH THE RECEIPTS FOR THE PARTS AND MATERIALS THAT I REPLACED. THE OLDS HAS BEEN KEPT IN A CLIMATE CONTROLLED GARAGE TO MAINTAIN ITS RUST FREE HERITAGE. NOW THAT I'VE DESCRIBED A LITTLE OF IT'S BACKGROUND I WILL DESCRIBE AS BEST I CAN THE CURRENT CONDITION OF THE OLDS. THIS IS A VERY MILD CUSTOM.THE CHANGES WERE TO IMPROVE RELIABILITY, DRIVEABILITY, SAFETY AND APPEARENCE. THE CHANGES ARE DESCRIBED IN THE FOLLOWING TEXT. EXTERIOR: THE OLDS IS TWO TONE IN THE FACTORY COLORS OF SHANTUNG BEIGE AND CITATION BRONZE. THE PAINT IS IN ABOVE AVERAGE CONDITION. I UNDERSTAND IT WAS REPAINTED PRIOR TO THE LAST OWNER. THE BODY IS STRAIGHT AND RUST FREE AND THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF ANY PRIOR DAMAGE OR REPAIRS. THE CHROME BUMPERS FRONT AND REAR, THE HOOD ORNAMENT, THE TRUNK HANDLE HAVE ALL BEEN REPLATED. NEW 88 BADGE ON TRUNK. THE ONLY CHROME THAT IS A LITTLE DULL IS THE TRIM ATTACHED TO AND AROUND THE WINDOWS (VENT AND REAR) ALL THE STAINLESS TRIM IS IN NICE CONDITION AND COULD ONLY BENEFIT FROM A BUFFING. THE FLIPPERS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND OPERATE AS THE SHOULD. THE GLASS IS ALL GOOD AND IS FACTORY TINTED. SHOWS A LITTLE BIT OF AGE BUT IS ABOVE AVERAGE. INTERIOR: INTERIOR IS WAY ABOVE AVERAGE. NON SMOKING INTERIOR. DASH IS IN REALLY NICE CONDITION. THE DASH IS PADDED AND THE CHROME IS NICE. NO CRACKS OR TEARS ON THE DASH AND NO PITTING ON THE CHROME. THE STEERING WHEEL IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO CRACKS. THE CHROME HORN BUTTON AND RING HAVE A SMALL AMOUNT OF PITTING. ALL GAUGES WORK AS THEY SHOULD WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE FUEL GAUGE WHICH WORKS BUT "FLOATS" A LITTLE. ALL LIGHTING (INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR) WORKS AS IT SHOULD. HIGH BEAM SWITCH ON THE FLOOR. NEW HEADLAMPS AND EXTERIOR BULBS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED. WINDOW CRANKS ARE NEW AND THE WINDOWS OPERATE FINE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE DRIVERS REAR WHICH NEEDS A LITTLE HELP WHILE YOUR CRANKING IT UP AND DOWN. THE TEETH ON THE GEARS DON'T ENGAGE QUITE RIGHT. ORIGINAL RADIO HAS BEEN CONVERTED TO SOLID STATE. RATHER THAN JUST BEING AM IT IS NOW AM/FM WITH A AUX JACK FOR YOUR IPOD. PLAYS THROUGH A STEREO SPEAKER UP FRONT AND TWO 6 X 9'S ON THE REAR SHELF. ORIGINAL CLOCK HAS BEEN CONVERTED TO QUARTZ AND APPEARS TO KEEP ACCURATE TIME. I TURN THE BATTERY OFF WHEN NOT IN USE SO IT'S ACCURATE FOR THE TIME I SPEND IN THE CAR. VINTAGE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT IS MOUNTED UNDER THE DASH. IT'S INCREDIBLE HOW WELL THIS WORKS !! THERE ARE THREE SWITCHES MOUNTED TO THE LEFT OF THE DRIVER UNDER THE DASH. ONE IS FOR THE ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP, ONE IS FOR THE RADIATOR FANS AND ONE FOR THE TWO-SPEED ELECTRIC. WIPERS. TO THE RIGHT OF THE SWITCHES THERE ARE ALSO GAUGES FOR A MORE ACCURATE READING OF THE OIL, BATTERY AND TEMPERATURE FUNCTIONS. THE SEATS AT SOME POINT WERE RECOVERED WITH AFTERMARKET SEAT COVERS. THEY LOOK FINE BUT ARE NOT ORIGINAL. NO TEARS IN THE FABRIC BUT A FEW SMALL STAINS. I DID REPAD THE SEATS LAST YEAR SO THEY WOULD BE MORE SUPPORTIVE. FRONT AND REAR DOOR PANELS HAVE BEEN REFINISHED. A NEW HEADLINER HAS BEEN INSTALLED WITH MATCHING VISORS. THERE ARE A FEW SMALL FLAWS IN THE HEADLINER. NEW CARPET AND MATCHING MATS HAVE ALSO BEEN INSTALLED. ALL WITHIN THE LAST YEAR. INTERIOR HEADLINER CHROME STRIPS AND TRIM IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. TRUNK: TRUNK IS CARPETED AND HAS A NEW MATCHING SPARE TIRE WITH COVER. JACK IS COMPLETE. OPTIMA BATTERY RESIDES IN THE TRUNK WITH A SHUT OFF SWITCH AND HAS A CARPETED BOX TO CONCEAL IT. THERE IS ALSO A FUEL PUMP SHUT OFF SWITCH IN THE TRUNK IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION IT WILL TURN OFF THE ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP. UNDER THE HOOD: ORIGINAL 324 CU INCH V8 , 4 BARREL 240 HP ROCKET ENGINE. ENGINE WAS REBUILT IN 2005 WITH ALL NEW PARTS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF CRANK AND RODS. IT NOW HAS HARDENED SEATS AND VALVES TO RUN ON TODAYS GAS. THE POWER STEERING BOX WAS REPLACED WITH A NEWER ONE TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF TURNS LOCK TO LOCK. GENERATOR WAS REPLACED WITH AN ALTERNATOR. THE BATTERY WAS MOVED TO THE TRUNK. THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT IS IMPRESSIVE AND LOOKS SHOWROOM CLEAN. EVERYTHING WAS REMOVED AND REPAINTED. FANS WERE INSTALLED TO HELP COOLING WHEN THE AFTER MARKET VINTAGE AIR UNIT IS USED. I'VE USED THE AIR CONDITIONING AND I'VE NEVER HAD TO TURN THE FANS ON. TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE AIR CONDITIONING PLUMBING THE MECHANICAL FUEL PUMP WAS REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH AN ELECTRIC ONE MOUNTED ON THE FRAME NEAR THE REAR OF THE CAR. NO SMOKE, NO DRIPS !! DRIVE TRAIN: THE TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT AT THE SAME TIME AS THE ENGINE ALONG WITH THE FRONT END AND BRAKES WITH ALL NEW BRAKE AND GAS LINES. NEW WHEEL BEARINGS AND SEALS FRONT AND REAR. WHEELS ARE FROM AN OLDSMOBILE STATION WAGON OF THE SAME ERA. THEY ARE ABOUT ONE INCH WIDER THAN THE STOCK WHEELS (WHICH WILL COME WITH THE CAR). THIS GIVES THE TIRES A WIDER STANCE AND REALLY IMPROVES THE APPEARANCE AND DRIVEABILITY. THE TIRES ARE WHITEWALLED BF GOODRICH SILVERTOWN RADIALS. ORIGINAL HOLIDAY FULL WHEEL COVERS WITH SPINNERS AT EACH WHEEL IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. THERE ARE ADJUSTABLE AIR SHOCKS ON THE REAR WHICH WILL RAISE OR LOWER THE REAR OF THE CAR SLIGHTLY. OVERALL THE CAR HAS BEEN LOWERED BY ABOUT TWO INCHES WHICH GIVES IT A REALLY AGGRESSIVE STANCE. THE EXHAUST SYSTEM IS STAINLESS WITH FLOW MASTER HUSH POWER MUFFLERS WHICH PROVIDE A REALLY NICE THROATY MELLOW RUMBLE. I HAVE TO ADMIT TO SMILING EVERY TIME I START HER UP. THE UNDERCARRIAGE IS SUPER CLEAN AND SHOWS AS WELL AS UNDER THE HOOD. THIS CAR LOOKS RIGHT AND SOUNDS RIGHT ! THE OLDS IS WHAT I CONSIDER MY SHOW CAR. IT'S SUCH A RARE SIGHT TO SEE A 56 OLDS SUPER 88 AT THE CAR SHOWS THAT IT GETS A LOT OF ATTENTION AMONGST THE DOZENS OF TRI-FIVE CHEVYS. NO OFFENSE TO THE CHEVY GUYS . I HAVE A 56 CHEVY PICK UP ! WE'RE DOWNSIZING AND WON'T HAVE ROOM FOR THE OLDS SO I HOPE SOMEONE OUT THERE LOVES THIS CAR AS MUCH AS I DO AND CAN GIVE IT A GOOD HOME. IT'S A BEAUTY AND READY TO GO.
