Vehicle Detail
Here is your chance to own a beautiful classic British sportscar. My 1976 Spitfire as undergone extensive work to make this car reliable and enjoyable to drive anywhere. Don't get stranded by the Gremlins that plague these awesome little cars. 1976 US models were the only ones to feature 9.5 to 1 compression ratio giving them close to Europian H.P. figures, all other US models feature a low 8 to 1 compression to meet EPA standards of the time. They are also the only models to have slotted steel rims and not round hole rims. This car has the 1500 engine, with original milage, the reliability upgrades are as follows: Weber DVG carb and intake, Pacesetter 4 to 1 header, monza exhaust sytem. GM 1 wire alternator for smooth consistant voltage, Pertronix electronic ignition, accel 8MM plug wires. Heavy duty radiator and Dual thermostatic controlled electric fans, 160F thermostate for cool summer driving. Headlights have been replaced with superbright HID lights and Pencil beem driving lights on highbeam. Rear tail lights are custom swirled (by hand) aluminum plate and 4 LED lights. (I have the original set up included). All electrical circuits have been checked and ground wires properly fasted to body. This prevents the typical "shorts". The starter motor has been replaced with a new Nippenzo mini high torque. Tranmission has been upgraded to a new 4 speed with overdrive, (The overdrive has been wired on a foot switch and an LED indicator on the dash lets you know its working, it can be operated in any gear however I have only used it on the HWY), HD clutch, new driveshaft. Transmission was purchased last winter from Quatum Mechanics ($1700.00) and installed in the spring of 2011. What a difference in HWY speed. The rear end has all new bearings, u-joints, half shafts. Other upgrades include: New brake shoes, pads and SS brake lines, new poly bushings, HD rear Leaf spring and Monro Air Shocks, Front lower HD springs and KYB shocks, Stiffer front sway bar. This car corners like its on rails. Once the car was running and driving perfect I turned my attention the the looks of the car. It started out that I just wanted to remove the seat covers, but it eventually turned into a complete interior rebuild, all new interior kit, carpet, weather stripping was installed. Soon a new stereo and then a dual smith guage to monitor engine heat and oil pressure. (I hate idiot lights) The convertable top was in great shape less the rear plastic windows, I had them replaced with tinted marine plastic, makes it look really nice when the top is up. This car has absolutly no rust and was as solid as the day it was made so now for a color change from Russet Brown to Black with a green pearl base. Its a little darker then what I wanted but looks awesome when the sun hits it. I then ordered front overriders from a place in Suffield called "spitfire graveyard". That made a difference, now for the rear, remove the US rear overriders and there now its Europian styling once again, much cleaner look. Other sublte things done to the car are removale of side marker lights and filled in the antena hole. (Its now a powered antena mounted behind the dash works great and completly out of sight. While I was visiting Regina I found a set of vintage 1970's Minilight rims (Actual made in England E20's) I quickly purchased them. For the install I upgraded the weak factory wheel studs to Land Rover M12X1.25 studs, since the new tires would have more traction then the factory sized tires. Lug nuts were specially ordered from England at only 5.00 each. (Ouch) They are Duplex Medium Shank, M12X1.25. I did find a source in the US after of course. I almost forgot, when I replaced the front windshield I had a rock guard film place over the whole thing. Its saved the windshield twice already. Well worth the money. I have done a few road trips with this little car, first down to Yellowstone and the Bears tooth pass HWY, and then toured Victoria island, both trips put on over 1000 miles and the car average 30+ miles per gallon, not bad for a car that is 36 years old. This car was originally purchased in Winnepeg, it was then sold to its second owner Steve on Aug 12 1979 with 12 500 miles. He started a diary for the car listing any work done and oil changes, winter storage etc. He then sold the car to Rob with 56 800 miles in May 2006. During Rob's ownership he put on 1643 miles. I purchased the car November 16 2008 with 58443 miles on the car. It was completely stock and Russet Brown. I have kept up the diary documenting all work done to this sweet little car. Copy and paste this for a look at pretty much everything I have done to this car: http://www.flickr.com/photos/60447296@N04/sets/72157628234582265/ I will help best I can with shipping however all costs will be the new owners responsibility. A deposit will be required of $1500.00 and will be non refunable at the close of the auction. Local advertising is being used and vehicle auction may end early. All the best in bidding and please ask question before submitting bid. I hope the next owner will take good care of this geat little car I will be sad to see it go but I have decided to pursue a different interest in vehicles. Thank you :-)
