Vehicle Detail

Those of you who follow my auctions know that I am a physical therapist here in the Tucson area and I have a love for unmolested, low mile and usually one-owner cars of all types. Because I deal with the elderly population at my work, and am always talking cars with my patients, I have a unique way of tapping into some of the cleanest, low mile cars in the nation. I love looking for cars that have been exceptionally well cared for and when I found this pickup I almost could not believe what I was looking at. This 1998 GMC pickup had only 17k miles when I found it. It has always been parked under the same carport from the time it was new. It has never been out of Yuma, Arizona where it was purchased new by a retired Marine of 33 years who took amazing care of the truck from day one until the day I bought it from him. It was used for only one purpose: camping/hunting 2-3 times a year and that was it. The truck looks and drives like BRAND NEW and I'm not exaggerating. I know you hear that a lot when you are dealing with used cars, but in this case it is absolutely accurate. I will outline the truck in more detail below: HISTORY: The truck was bought brand new in Yuma Arizona for the price of $25,749 in 1998. It has stayed at the same address for the past 14 years and parked in the same carport. The truck was used only for camping/hunting trips a few times per year. As mentioned earlier, the owner was a retired Marine of 33 years who was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer and was given 30-60 days to live. When I bought the truck it was already past the 30 day mark and so he didn't have much time left. He was very kind and gave me three boxes of cassettes with the truck since that is all he listened to. He also gave me three additional oil filters that go with the truck. He had nothing but praise for this truck and really wanted it to go to a good home. He was selling it to free up money for his wife to live on after he passes. He told me that when he first bought the truck he had the dealership put in another battery in the truck, so it has duel batteries now. The one on the driver's side is dedicated to the trailer plug and the headlights. The other battery is for everything else in the truck. So if you were going to hook up a camping trailer to the truck, all the electrical functions of the trailer would work off that second battery and the battery would get recharged through the truck's alternator charging system. Pretty cool thing to have if you are into camping. He said that after doing all that he never did get a trailer to tow with the truck and would usually just sleep in the shell of the truck with a sleeping bag and pillow. He kept a file on the truck of the few things that were ever done to it and he has the original window sticker as well that will go with the truck. EXTERIOR: There CANNOT be a cleaner 1998 GMC Sierra anywhere on this or any other planet. I can say that with full confidence because this truck does not have one scratch or ding anywhere on the truck. There is not one road chip anywhere on the grill or front edge of the hood or fenders. The factory white paint shines as new. There are no clear coat issues, no fading, no rust or corrosion of ANY kind anywhere on this truck. There is no fading on the black side moldings or discoloration or oxidization of lights or lenses. The wheel well moldings, which are almost always dinged up on these trucks, are perfect except for one tiny ding in the front right molding. The wheel center cap on the left rear wheel has a small chip in it. The GMC emblem on the driver's side moulding on the door is faded because the truck was always parked in a carport and the driver's side got the early morning sun for the past 14 years and so it is not bright red like the passenger's side is. Those are the only small three defects with the truck on the exterior. If I didn't mention them to you, you probably never would even notice them, they are so small. The truck comes with a beautiful Snug Top topper that is also in perfect condition and matches the trucks factory paint perfectly. The shell has a boot that attaches to the sliding rear window of the cab so you can access the shell from inside the truck. The shell also has a working interior light and brake light. It has sliding windows with screens and the inside is very nicely done with carpeted storage that can be arranged in a variety of ways to even become a bed that is very comfortable with full padded carpet throughout. There are even cup holders inside the shell!. Of course the back hatch is locking and fully functional. The shell has been on the truck since it was new (the truck was purchased 11/14/1997 and the shell went on 11/15/1997) so you can imagine the shape of the inside of the bed if you were to take out the storage and remove the shell...absolutely MINT! The cost of the shell with the carpet kit etc. was $1,836.29, so it was not a cheap unit and it looks like it was just put in yesterday! It even smells new inside the shell. Underneath the truck looks excellent as well, with factory chalk markings and tags evident when you look underneath. Tires are in great shape but are not the original tires. He had Big O put on taller tires that he felt looked better on the truck two years after he bought the truck. He couldn't find the receipt for the tires in the folder so I can't be exactly sure on the date of the tires, but they look great and have lots of tread left on them. Front and rear bumpers are perfect and look brand new. All glass is in excellent shape with no issues. INTERIOR: This truck was custom ordered the way you see it now by the original owner. He didn't believe in the "bells and whistles" and felt that those items were prone to fail and so he ordered this truck with manual windows and doorlocks. He ordered it with cruise control, AC, AM/FM cassette, tilt wheel, PS, PB, 60-40 split front bench seat and cloth interior. The interior is also in MINT condition with no noticeable wear on the seats or carpet. It has the factory GM floor mats in great shape. Never been smoked in. Everything works perfectly with freezing cold AC. Rear seat is a fold down bench seat so you can seat six people with seat belts in this truck. It was funny because he had the seat folded down when I came and got the truck and I asked him how to fold it up and he said it didn't fold up but was fixed in the down position. I thought that was strange and when I got the truck home I found the release mechanism to fold the rear seat up. It had never been folded up in the 14 years the original owner had the truck! Rear sliding window accesses the camper shell and it does lock. Rear window pop out and front windows roll up and down as new. All gauges are bright and clear and function perfectly. Stereo sounds great. Drives very comfortably and quite inside. In some of the pictures the flash makes it look like the carpet is stained. There are no stains anywhere on the carpet. It is free of any pet hair or odors. The back seat was never sat in since the truck was new and the passenger's seat was rarely sat in. MECHANICAL: Do I really need to address this part? 18k miles...the truck runs and drives like new. The engine compartment literally looks like you are looking at a truck on a new car lot...it is beautiful. It has the 255HP Vortec 5.7L V8 with a four speed automatic transmission. Has the insta-trac 4x4 transfer case, four wheel anti lock brakes, 3.73 rear axle ratio and 25 gallon fuel tank. The truck was serviced regularly whether it needed it or not. There are no leaks, drips, smoking or funny noises. It drives perfectly. Needs nothing. Has the factory installed 8 wire trailering harness and tow package and front tow hooks. It is a pleasure to drive and can be driven anywhere in any weather. SUMMARY: Take a look at prices for a truck equipped like this with this kind of mileage on your dealer lots and see what kind of money they are asking for them. This truck will not disappoint in any way. It is as close to perfect as any vehicle I have ever seen. If you know anything about Marines then you know they are meticulous and this truck shows the pride of ownership from this retired Marine and someone will have the opportunity to benefit from his care of this truck. This truck has many years of great service left in it and can be purchased for a fraction of the cost of a new comparably equipped truck and yet with the low miles on this truck it is very close to buying a new truck. There is absolutely nothing to hide on this truck and I would be happy to take it to a mechanic of your choosing to have the truck gone over completely (at buyers expense of course). It is a rare find indeed to find a truck of this vintage in this condition. This older body style is the preferred body style for chevy and GM enthusiasts as it was still made with quality steel and heavy front/rear bumpers before they switched to the cheap plastic grills and bumpers after 1999. You will never find one cleaner than this one and it's the right color - Summit White (GM's best seller). I may be listing this locally for sale so I do reserve the right to end this auction at anytime if it sells locally. There will be a $500 deposit due withing 48 hours of the end of the auction payable through Paypal. Please ask questions if you have any. Look at the pictures, look at my feedback and bid with confidence. As always I will be happy to pick up buyers from Tucson International Airport if you should want to fly in and drive this beautiful truck home. Goodluck!!
