I am the original owner of this cherished family heirloom. I just bought a new car and no longer have room for this masterpiece of Toyota engineering. I purchased it in 1984 at a Jones Toyota in Maryland. It has served us well over the years and has never broken down. The Good -------- - Pennsylvania inspection just performed. Good for a year - No accidents involving frame damage. Replaced two doors due to minor mishaps - 67,000 on a factory remanufactured ATK engine, replaced in 2001 - Engine starts and runs good with lots of power - Everything works, including the seats - AM/FM Stereo Radio with six-CD changer from Honda, works - Up to 34 MPG, your mileage will vary - Oil changed every 3000 miles - Does not smoke - Maintenance performed in last 11 years: -- MacPherson struts, both rear 2012 -- Rubber donuts, rear exhaust, 2012 -- Alternator, 2011 -- Window mechanism lubricated, both front, 2011 -- Front CV axle drive shaft and boots replaced, 2011 -- Wheel bearing, front, replaced, 2010 -- Transmission fluid, 2010 -- Corrosion inhibitor spray, 2010 -- Radiator, 2010 -- Master brake cylinder, 2009 -- Radiator fan, 2009 -- Radiator fan thermostat, 2009 -- Front Tires 2009 -- Exhaust system including catalytic converter and muffle,r 2008 -- Stabilizer bar, front, 2008 -- Front and rear brake shoes, 2008 -- Paint, factory original color, with clear coat, color is Topaz, 2002 -- Installed factory remanufactured engine, 2001 -- Clutch, 2001 - Fluids recently replaced -- Oil -- Brake fluid -- Coolant - No structural frame issues - Steering tracks straight and true - Parts are cheap. For example, $34 for alternator, $21 for MacPherson strut - Car is easy to fix. No computers, has a carburetor, manual transmission and steering The "Opportunities" ------------------- - Corrosion: Many of the major rust spots were sprayed with ACF50 and LPS32 and patched with aluminum. ACF50 is an aircraft corrosion inhibitor that creeps in for years and passivates metal. LPS32 was sprayed in after the ACF50. LPS32 starts out as a liquid. It creeps for a day and then forms a wax protective film. It is used in Boeing aircraft. - The engine starts right up. For the first 20 seconds you will need to pump the throttle to keep it running. After that, it runs great, winter or summer - The steering gear is a little worn but passes inspection - Rear tires pass inspection but may need to be replaced in a year - There are patched holes in the roof from my amateur radio antennas - Headliner is stained - There is a water leak causing water to accumulate at the drivers feet. It only accumulates during a heavy rain - Door activated lights do not work - Gas gauge only works when there is 1/2 tank or less. After a fill up, I reset the trip odometer - There is a slow oil leak around the engine, it very slowly drips oil on the garage floor. I tightened up the loose bolts on the valve cover but the leak is so slow I cannot tell if it stopped the leak. - There are two dents in the lower rear fenders. Does not affect operation. - No AC. It has all the controls, but I removed the compressor and evaporator when I replaced the engine. Comes with: - Car - Maintenance Manual, with full electrical schematics - Owner's manual - Repair records - Six CD changer I have not driven it much in the last few years so I cannot say if it burns oil or what the gas mileage is.
