UP FOR AUCTION IS MY 1968 442 W30 CONVERTIBLE. THE ENGINE IS NON-NUMBERS MATCHING BUT IS CORRECT W30 MOTOR WITH CORRECT W30 D-CODED HEADS. I DO NOT HAVE ANY DOCUMENTATION FOR THE CAR BUT EVERYTHING ON THE CAR INDICATES IT IS A TRUE W30. THIS CAR SOLD TWICE AT BARRETTE JACKSON AUCTIONS AS A W30 FOR ANYONE THAT WANTS TO RESEARCH ITS HISTORY. THIS CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO RUST OR MECHANICAL ISSUES AT ALL. THE TIRES ARE LIKE NEW CONDITION. ALL CHROME IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND THE ENGINE BAY IS NICELY DETAILED. THE CONVERTIBLE TOP IS IN NEW CONDITION WITH NO FADING AND THE ELECTRICAL OPERATION WORKS PERFECTLY WITH NO ISSUES. THE INTERIOR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO TEARS. I HAD THIS CAR UP FOR AUCTION IN THE PAST AND RECEIVED COMMENTS FROM OLDSMOBILE COLLECTORS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FENCE REGARDING ITS AUTHENTICITY AS A W30. ONE EXPERT SAID HE VIEWED THIS CAR WHEN IT WAS UP FOR SALE IN PENNSYLVANIA AND WENT THROUGH THE CAR AND SAYS IT IS THE REAL DEAL. THE TRUTH IS THAT WITHOUT DOCUMENTATION THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL ON A MANUAL TRANSMISSION W30. HOWEVER, EVERYTHING POINTS TO THIS CAR BEING A TRUE W30 AND ALTHOUGH IT IS TRUE THAT A W30 ENGINE, TRANSMISSION AND REAR END CAN BE PURCHASED; THESE PARTS ARE RARE, HARD TO FIND AND NOT CHEAP. IT DOESN'T MAKE MUCH SENSE THAT SOMEONE WOULD GO TO SUCH LENGTHS AND EXPENSE AND THEN INSTALL THESE PARTS ON A NON-W30 CAR. AT ANY RATE THIS IS AN EXCELLENT CAR AND MY RESERVE IS LOW DUE TO THE LACK OF DOCUMENTATION. THANKS FOR LOOKING AND GOOD LUCK BIDDING. THE DISTRIBUTOR NUMBER IS 1111468 CORRECT FOR W30 EQUIPMENT. THE CARBURETOR NUMBER IS 7029254 WHICH IS CORRECT W30 CARB FOR 1969 W30 (I SUSPECT THIS MUST HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT SOMETIME FOR THE 1968 CARB BECAUSE IT IS ORIGINAL DELCO CARB WITH OEM STAMPED NUMBERS AND NOT SOME AFTERMARKET REPLACEMENT). HERE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT MAY BE OF IMPORTANCE TO HELP IN MAKING THE DECISION IF THIS IS THE CAR FOR YOU. THE ENGINE IS A 400/360HP SERVICE REPLACEMENT BLOCK WITH FUNCTIONAL RAM AIR. THE BLOCK CASTING NUMBER IS 396026G WITH CORRECT "D" CODED HEADS. POWER STEERING, POWER WINDOWS AND POWER TOP. ORIGINAL AM/FM RADIO WITH POWER ANTENNA ALL IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER. CLOCK IN TACH AND DUAL SPORT MIRRORS WITH REMOTE DRIVER SIDE ADJUSTMENT. 12 BOLT REAR END, FACTORY DUAL EXHAUST, HEAVY DUTY SWAY BARS, AND RARE K-2 (OCEAN TURQUOISE) PAINT CODE. THE TRANSMISSION CASTING NUMBER IS 3925660 WITH A SERIAL NUMBER OF P8D08A WHICH IDENTIFIES THIS AS A MUNCIE 4 SPEED M20 TRANSMISSION BUILT ON AUGUST 8, 1968. THE REAR END IS CODED TO WHICH IDENTIFIES IT AS A 1968 3.91 POSI ANTI SPIN 12 BOLT REAR. THE D CODED HEADS MATCH THE PRODUCTION DATE THAT IS ON THE CARS COWL TAG. THE COWL TAG READS 68-33667 WHICH INDICATES A PRODUCTION DATE OF APRIL 19, 1968. THE D CODED HEADS WERE INSTALLED ON ALL W30'S AND THE HEADS INSTALLED ON THIS VEHICLE HAVE A PRODUCTION DATE OF APRIL 19, 1968. NOT DOCUMENTATION BUT STRONG PROOF THAT THIS IS A REAL DEAL W30 442 CONVERTIBLE. THERE IS LITTLE DOUBT THAT THIS IS THE REAL THING AND NOT A CLONE HOWEVER WITHOUT DOCUMENTATION THE CAR HAS TO SPEAK FOR ITSELF.
