Vehicle Detail
This auction is for a 1961 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz convertible. This is an extremely rare car with approximately 1400 cars built of this model. I have owned this car for over 23 years and recently decided to offer it for sale. I know every nut and bolt on the car and should be able to answer any questions you may have. The body is rock solid with exception of two small areas that would need to be patched during a restoration. Those are shown on the passenger side photos. The gash along bottom is where I hit a rock, it is not rusted out in that area. There are some small dents I put in top of fenders shown in photos where I unfortunately pushed too hard with my hand climbing in and out of engine compartment when I was removing 30 years of road grime. I was going to have a body shop knock them back out, wouldn’t need filler, there are no creases. The floors and trunk are as solid as the day it rolled out of Detroit. I climbed all over under this car before I listed it to verify again and couldn’t find one single spot that would need repair to floor or frame or suspension. This car is an original “black tag” California car and was driven to Michigan shortly before I bought it. I am very confident you could drive it from my home to yours anywhere in the US with no problems. Did a 350 mile round trip this summer and car never missed a beat and ran perfect the entire time. Car runs smooth and cool. A small tick developed at end of year, taking my stethoscope I can hear on upper end, definitely not a rod knock, I believe it to be an exhaust leak or maybe a lifter not filling fully. Again, just want to reveal everything I can about this car. The car is 100% original, not perfect by any means. I rebuilt the motor (first and only time it was out of car) approximately 15 years and 15,000 miles ago. You should never have to rebuild this motor again in your life time. The engine did not need to be bored out, only honed and cleaned with new valves, rings, bearings, etc installed. It has great compression and runs very smooth. One of the pictures shows all the trim that would go back on the car. All trim is present including Biarritz script for fenders and Eldorado across trunk. Most of it is in very good shape, small dents in a few pcs easily repaired. I replaced all the heater controls and cables, has original radio, a rebuilt transmission and comes with a spare transmission which is disassembled. The steering and suspension components are all in good working order with good tread left on the tires. The interior is a little rough but complete. The chrome on exterior of car is in very good condition with little to no pitting. A few small interior chrome pieces have some small pitting on them. The chrome on windshield frame and “A” pillars is in excellent condition. The grill is very complete with no broken or missing fins. Car has dual stainless exhaust front to back. The picture of rear of car shows gas door assembly out, I’m putting in new springs in it this winter and do have the assembly. The dash has been repainted in its original color. One of the pictures shows the worst area of dash on driver’s side corner, the rest of pad is in good condition. The heater box was reworked and repainted. Heater works great along with defrost, I use both in spring and fall. Windshield wipers work good. Rebuilt generator a couple years ago. Reworked radiator a couple years ago. Car has rare power vent windows. Rare power vent option. Five of six power windows work, one of the vent windows not working and motor may not even be in door. Passenger side window cracked, I have an extra driver’s side window I was going to use. The logo orientation would be different doing this but unless you were going for a 100 point car not a person in the world would know. Top was installed new a few years ago. There are some wrinkles in it it that you could leave as is or have an expert stretch it out more. That is the original color top which I searched for years to find. Car is very rare as most of you know if you are looking for a 1961 Eldorado. I’ve only ever seen two other ones in over 23 years. Car is priced at approximate book value for its condition. I won’t reveal its reserve other than to say its reasonable and well under 20K. I will let this auction run its course, will not end early. You are welcome to come to the West side of Michigan and view at anytime. It’s on jack stands in my garage under a cover as it is every year during the cold winter months.. Car is original color, has been repainted before I bought it. Paint isn’t very pretty but looks good from 20 feet away. I imagine the next owner would do a full restoration on this excellent candidate. At its current price this car can be restored and still not be upside down as the restored value is over 65K currently listed in value guides. Please don’t bother with low offers, I don’t need to sell, I can keep it another 20 years and keep driving it and having fun. Please don’t waste my time or yours if you aren’t serious. I can’t guarantee quick email responses but will call you back at my cell number if you leave message if I can’t answer when you call. The car has clean title. I will not accept anything but cash or money wired to my bank, buyer pays any transaction fees. I’ve seen all the scams and you won’t get my car or any money out of me so if you are one of those types of people, don’t bother. Buyer shall be responsible for shipping, I don’t want to be involved. I prefer you come see the car in person, pay me in cash or wire the money, arrange shipping anyway you want and take possession of your Cadillac. I will require a certified check for $500 within 24 hours into my Paypal account of winning bid to show me you are serious. If you have less than five transactions or negative feedback contact me prior to bidding to discuss, I won’t acknowledge zero feedback bidders. I consider myself to be a very honest person and will tell you every single detail you want to know about this car to the best of my ability. I want to have a very happy buyer who knows exactly what they are getting. My cell phone is (616) 886- 8448, call anytime, I carry it with me 8 am to 5 pm EST. Thanks for your interest
