The restoration/build was practically a "cost-no-object" effort with claimed expense of $40K. Call it a tribute, re-creation, clone, copy or whatever you like. Having owned many 914's including V-8 Renegades, I have learned that the only "changes" that porschephiles appreciate and are willing to pay for are 914-6 conversions using all porsche parts. Practical experience has taught me that should you buy a Subie, rotary, or chevy powered 914, realize that when you get tired of it, there is a VERY small market of buyers. Original 914-6 cars are very rare and expensive. A clone built on a 1974 platform using a 3.0 911 power-plant will run circles around a real 914-6 and hold it's value if not appreciate. The expense to build a proper 914-6 is obscene. Priced out a decent 3.0 long-block lately? Buy my car at a fraction of build costs. The car is not perfect by any means or Porsche Parade ready in my opinion. My experience has been that the last 10% needed to make a car perfect will drive you nuts and can cost as much at the other 90%. This car was originally a solid 1.8 car. The anemic powertrain was replaced with a carbureted 3.0 SC engine boasting 225 horsepower. The drive experience can be best described as Visceral. Rebuild used dilavar studs, twin 46 IDA's, reworked heads, Patrick motorsports mounts, B&B SS headers, MSD ignition, GPR oil tank, Mocal oil cooler located in RR fenderwell. Suspension was strengthened, fitted with 1988 carerra front suspension, new front struts, torsion bar, 911a front calipers, 19mm master cylinder, heavier 165 progressive rear springs, Turbo tie rods, 16" 911 hubs. Automotion bushings, Otto's 914-6 stub axles, and more. Car now has dansk-style pickle muffler attached to headers but is still reasonably loud. If I end up keeping it, I would install Fat Mat behind seat enclosure. I would rate the paintwork a 7.5-8 on 10 scale. The body of the car is very straight. Only sign of corrosion under paint is at left rear quarter near taillight. When considering that the paint has been on this car for almost 20 years, I consider this a good sign! The paintwork cost more than $8K in 1993 dollars. Motor out paint job with both trunks and jambs done. Did the builder get his money's worth? Probably not. Under close scrutiny (1 foot) primer shrinkage and sanding scratches can be found under the right light. Still presents very well. Zero orange peel and overspray. Dupont Chroma Black single stage job. There is one spot of bubbling at left rear taillight as shown in photos. Very light surface rust on bottom of pan in a couple of rub areas. Five minutes with wire brush type stuff. Rear Trailing arms were reinforced with Auto-motion kit. The interior of this car would be around a 8.5 on 10 scale. Very nice. No cracks on dash. Momo wheel. Drive experience of car is great. Realize that carbs are not equipped with chokes. B&B stainless headers do have heat exchangers that are presently not hooked up. This is a 3 season car . Original side shifter transaxle was rebuilt and had gear ratios changed to suit heart transplant. 4th & 5th taller for comfortable freeway cruising. Shift action is as good or better than most 914's and there are no synchro issues. All receipts included with sale of car. Happy to send additional pics to interested parties. Car has approx 10K miles on build and is well sorted. Only issue at present would be intermittent windshield wiper operation... No efforts made to trouble shoot.. (if you hit a bump, they may cycle on) Buyers note that car has had oil service, valve adjust, and new style Patrick motor-mount welded in past summer. New Optima Battery and Pirelli P6's this summer as well. Purchaser should expect to jet carbs for new home's elevation. Clear title in hand for smooth transaction. Please ask all questions prior to bidding. This car is sure to please it's next owner. Driving lessons encouraged for next owner prior to exploring the limits of this car. I took and loaded 3 short clips today of car. Two are redundant walk-arounds under different light that will give you some sense of the car and the third is a short drive segment. I misspoke on location of aux oil cooler as it is tucked under the RIGHT Rear fender, not the left. Temp today about 40 degrees. Should you be interested in seeing them, you can find them on You Tube searching as follows: sev's 914-6 walk around sev's 914-6 walk around version 2 sev's 914-6 short drive Please continue to send your questions. There were a few requests for photos that are very difficult to get. I believe though that you will be able to clearly see the one spot on body that is indicative of poor surface preparation under paint at left rear corner of car. Thanks for your interest.
