Vehicle Detail
Thanks for looking at my 1990 Mazda RX7 project car. I bought this car FOR my oldest son when he graduated from USMA in 2004, then bought it FROM him when he moved from Ft Knox, KY to Ft Hood, TX. Car has not been driven for the last three years due to bad automatic transmission but has been started occasionally. Recently car wouldn't start. My mechanic and I replaced the spark plugs and wires but determined no gas was getting to the engine. Engine did start with starting fluid (ether). Problem isolated to the fuel pump. Original transmission was replaced with a used automatic transmission in 2006 which only lasted two years. This is what has been done to car since I've had it: 1. Replaced struts and springs which lowered vehicle 1-1/2 inches ($750) 2. Added wide body side ground effects, ($200) 3. New GReddy stainless steel cat back exhaust system ($1,500) 4. Replaced original engine with factory rebuilt engine at 105,461 ($4,223.28) 5. Sony 6-disk CD changer installed by my son (no ashtray but is available) ($200) The car needs a replacement transmission and electric fuel pump. The car also has two minor rust spots - one on the sunroof and one behind the rear wheel on the driver's side and needs a seat belt retractor on the passenger side. Car is a great project or parts car for someone with mechanical abilities and knowledge of RX7's. Car and Driver Magazine compared a used 2nd GEN RX7 with a used Porsche 944 a few years back and rated the RX7 a superior to the Porsche as far as reliability and cost of ownership..
