Vehicle Detail

Hello. I have owned this beautiful headturner for 9 years and have driven it about 11,000 miles mostly on weekends in the Miami Metro area and on 200 miles round trips to the Florida Keys for fun. I am the third owner of this 53 year old well maintained car. Previous owner had it 33 years in Southern California since new. I brought it to Miami by truck. I have the original black and yellow lettered California plates from the early sixties. Car was never owned in salty snowy roads. Car has been garage kept. The body is straight, paint seems to be original and still shinny, interiors are almost new leatherette in great condition, 6 cylinder engine with dual Solex carburetors and standard 4 gear manual transmission are sound and strong. Good compression in all cylinders. "Gillete" tires are vintage but in good condition, brake shoes and brake pump are basically new, complete new one year old exhaust system, electrical system is in great condition and all instrument gauges, lights, indicators, dome lights, headlamps, fog lamps, etc, work fine. Overall car is very dependable and looks great for its age. No undercarriage rust (see pictures). Air Conditionning system blows really cold air. The engine generator was changed for an alternator two yeras ago to avoid battery discharge when idling with A/C on, but I do have the old original generator for you. Has original am radio in place, but hidden inside the front speaker grill is a Blaupunkt am/fm/cd radio-player with four great quality surround speakers located under the seats with beautiful sound. This car is not a show car but It is a great vehicle in good condition with minor detailes for its age. Car runs great, engine is powerful and easily cruises at 75 mph on the freeway with no vibrations, no noises, just perfect. Could go faster but I do not push it that far. A perfect example of German engineering at its best ! The flaws to the best of my knowledg are: A few engine oil drips on the floor per week, minor quarter or smaller in size superficial rust in fenders need attention, some paint scartches and amateur touch-ups in the original paint, car would look amazing with a light paint recoat and some rechroming here and there. The original headliner is ok but has some few stiches keeping it in its place (see pictutre), a tiny dent on the roof caused by a limb (see picture), arm rests small sections of leather are aged and need replacement, some fine line cracking in plastic lenses due to age, one rear taillight lens is complete but was repaired, interior wood is good but will benefirt with some refinishing (see pictures). There is a small scratch caused by the wiper in the windshield's passenger side, other than that all glass is perfect. Some rust in front fenders needs attention in area inside the hood. The A/C compressor, evaporator, blower, dryer, etc all work great but a/c rubber hoses are a half century old and need to be replaced since there is a leak somewhere that loses freon. Driver's door needs to be locked and unlocked from inside since key stopped moving the lock button just recently. I have several new parts included in the auction such as all windows channels and other for you. Pictures are worth a thousand words and speak for themselves. I am a vintage car entushiast and small car collector. I have taken this car to some shows in Miami and Key Biscayne and have received all kind of nice complements including the local Mercedes dealer. I am stopped frequently and asked if I want to sell the car. I am selling my MBZ because I recently bought a 1957 Rolls Royce and now my hobby and interest has shifted from German to British cars. I am not using my Mercedes as much as before and it really deserves a new home and owner who keeps taking good care of it. I have been an Ebay member for 12 years with a 100% POSITIVE FEEDBACK. Please BID WITH CONFIDENCE. It is impossible for me to perfectly describe a 52 year old car in writting but let me assure you that IF FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER YOU ARE NOT DELIGHTED WITH THE CAR AT PICKUP, I WILL REFUND YOUR DEPOSIT NO QUESTIONS ASKED. Happy bidding and thanks for looking. The car was original red but I do not know if it was repainted or recoted before I purchase it. The Paint is overall in good condition EXCEPT for some small areas that look repainted or touchups. The back passenger's rear fender had some rust and the repair (where fender meets the trunk) and repainting was not professional (shown in the pictures). car has flaws due to its age but are minor Cosmetic ones but not mechanic which is what is all about. The car is not a restored car, it is a vehicle that has been properly service, maintainned, and well taken care. Questions about the A/C. I have never seen or heard of another ponton having it. The local Miami Mercedez Dealer stated that it is either original or maybe was installed in the early sities. If you charge it with freon as is, you will get real cold air, it has a thermostat to set temperature and a 3 speed blower. As I said before, your freon gas will be gone because it needs the 50 year hoses to be replaced. It was working perfectly during this summer but I noticed that it had no freon last week. The A/C mechanic said he would replace the old hoses and that would be it ! The middle section of the rear bumper was slightly damaged and repaired in the past but needs some rechroming to look perfect. I have half gallon perfect match original red paint I ordered some time ago for all your future touch ups. It and is a perfect match. It will be included among other spare parts.
