Vehicle Detail

1985 VW Westfalia Vanagon GL For Sale(for no other reason than needing the money) I have listed this item for my father-in-law, as he is not an eBay user and desperately needs the money from the sale of this vehicle. This 1985 Vanagon was purchased from the original owner in 1994, and we have the service records dating back to the original purchase. The canvas on the pop up tent was replaced last year and is in excellent condition. It just needs to be reconnected with screws on the inside, but the holding bar is still in the vanagon. There are some areas where the paint is beginning to peel, but additional pictures are available through email, if requested. One large scratch on the drivers side, a few bumper dents and general wear and tear are all that makes this vehicle not excellent. It has been on many trips (both to Florida and Vermont) and is easy to ride in and drive. This camper bus has lived in the SouthEast for its lifetime and has been garage kept for many (but not all) years. It has lots of storage room and the front seats swivel around so that 3 people can sit around the table. Serious bidders only, please. $500 deposit due at the end of the auction, balance due within 7 days of auction close. Buyer responsible for vehicle pickup/delivery. Some additional information added by my father-in-law:Things that the interested parties should know: The AC does not work at present . I have had it serviced in the past and it would work for a "season" and then gradually become ineffective. I suspect it has a slow leak in the freon but have not explored it further - the windows all work though and we have never really missed the AC :) - heat works GREAT. Otherwise, I think it is completely mechanically sound and should make it through any trip, long or short, just fine. All service records are with it - tires and oil changes up to date. Last September, I put new rack and pinion steering prior to our trip to Florida. Also, I had a new propane tank installed. We did lose a belt on the trip so ALL the belts were replaced on that trip. Other than a few cosmetic blemishes(rear bumper was bent when I bought it and I put a sizeable scrape in the driver-side rear panel) I think it is in pretty good shape for its age(kind of like me!!!!!) The tires are still good(not sure about mileage on them but plenty of tread left--they are Michelins) The brakes will need work later but the mechanic at Johnson foreign motors said he did not think they needed anything at present. To my knowledge there is no rust problem other than on the exhaust . On Feb-08-12 at 12:29:12 PST, seller added the following information: Note to interested buyers: Vehicle was taken to Johnson Foreign Auto today for engine compression test. There were NO problems noted by them.
