Vehicle Detail
I've got a 1935 Hupmobile, 518D, 4-door sedan. This is a very hard to find car. I purchased this car in the home of the Hupmobile (Motor City, Detroit) to build a rat rod. Upon getting the car home and disassembling it, I realized that the car is in too good of shape and too rare to cut into a rat rod. The car was all original when I purchased it, complete with the original 6 cylinder engine, transmission and the rest of the running gear. The car has most of the parts with the exception of the hood ornament, complete interior, headlight lenses and some other miscellaneous interior parts. Dash is complete, window moldings are there as well as the window mechanisms. All door latches are functional and complete except for the rear driver's (frozen) and the rear passenger striker plate are missing. The original artillery wheels are there with brand new tires as well as separate spare rim which was mounted in the spare tire compartment on the back of the body. Body-wise, this car is in very good condition with the exception of two small exterior rust holes (see pix). One hole is on the rear wheel well by the back of the rear passenger door. The other is in the front passenger cowling under the front fender (also shown in pix). Floorboards have a few holes under the rear seat and the front floorboards need replaced (being they are made from wood). Other than that, there are a couple small dents in the car, one on top of the front windshield frame, one on the top of the back passenger rear window and one over top of the driver rear fender. Fenders on this car are savable but have several dents, some cracks but little rust. The car has its running boards and mounts but in my estimation would only be good for patterns because they have several rust holes in them. I'm trying to be honest with the condition of the car. It's certainly not perfect, however, it can definitely be saved by someone who wants to restore it and appreciates the rarity of the car. Overall, there's little rust to deal with and a great start to a restoration. I'd love to see someone get this car who wants to restore it. I'd rather not see it rodded or rat rodded. It would also be a good parts car for another hup mobile restoration. This car is sold with a bill of sale as I have no title. If you have any questions, please call (614) 305-3773 and ask for Todd. Serious inquiries only. On Jan-30-12 at 19:19:51 PST, seller added the following information: I had listed this car earlier this evening and a kind soul told me I had the car name mis-spelled. It should have been hupmobile! Ebay wouldn't allow me to edit the listing once it had bids so I had to cancel the listing and start over....sorry for the confusion! On Feb-03-12 at 06:56:20 PST, seller added the following information: I was moving some parts around yesterday and noticed there a couple small rust areas in the spare tire cover. The bottom edge of the lip has a couple quarter sized rust holes - it will require some metal work. There are also some pin holes in the back spare tire compartment at the bottom (where the spare tire is bolted). When I got the car, the spare tire cover lock was inoperable and I took the bolt off from the inside to get cover off and inside I found a spare rim and found decades of road grime which accumulated on the bottom of the compartment! I would imagine that will need some metal work also. In my estimation, the fenders of this car will need to most amount of work. Like most old cars, they've been thumped and bumped with a few splits in them. The aluminum grill insert was split when I got the car and will need a new insert. Just want everyone to be aware of the overall condition of the body.
