Vehicle Detail
Here is your chance to own a truly one of a kind car, as all of the hard work has been completed and very well done, therefore only awaiting your preferred detailed finishing! Back in the 1990's I rescued from the crusher a '63 Cad done simular to this '64, only the '63 was a 4 dr. ht. with 2 dr.ht. doors hung, the car shortened to be a one seater 2 dr. with a complete trunk. This is the first time ever for this car to be auctioned, a one of a kind 1964 Cadillac 2 door hard top Coupe DeVille, that an expert bodyman converted it to have the ElCamino like body styling. Last winter I was working for an auto wrecking yard when this car came in on the "slider-bed" tow truck. The yard wanted to crush it, and I did not, being that someone put a lot of heart & soul in to creating the car to be like this. The first 6 photo's were taken before I got the car running and drove it home, right out of the wrecking yard! The rest of the photos are of last summer until now. While during the summer months, I hit all of the campground dumpsters getting the recycle's for extra cash, is when the other photos were taken. The car was last registered in 1985, being that the owner of it at that time, who did the all of the body work, became ill, so then the car sat from 1985 until I rescued it from going to the crusher. Luckily it came in with having the original clear title, [not a salvage title] so I was able to keep & register it's original California black & yellow license plates. Odometer reads 34,107 but may be 134,107 as the speedometer odometer originaly uses only 5 milege digits, but then how many miles could be put from 1964 to 1985?, so it could be either or? Right now it needs a water pump, and right here on eBay I find new water pumps available, but I also know of a company in Fresno, Ca. who will rebuild the original one for about $50. The original gas tank is still good, but has a very small 1/8" diameter puncture hole located right directly in line with one of the gas tank mounting straps. The tank can be weld repaired. For now & while during the summer, the car has been running on a temporary plastic portable motor boat fuel tank with electric fuel pump, until I was able to complete the original tank correctly. The "Y" shaped single header exhaust pipe broke at the split, so I planned to install a complete dual exhaust system instead. The original 429 engine runs excellent, does not smoke or knock. The only thing that I've done to the engine was install a new set of spark plugs & ignition point set from Napa, the good stuff, and not the cheap economy type. The charging system works perfect. The original Carter A.F.B carburator needs a rebuild kit, the accelerator pump is bad from sitting, but it starts, runs & drives the way it is. The transmission shifts, works perfect & does not leak. The brakes work perfect, needing a new power brake master cylinder, having a very slow leak, needing the rear reservior refilled about once a week. Radiator is good, but the heater core has been bypassed. The original factory air conditioning is complete, I never yet tried it to work. If the exhaust, water pump, fuel tank, heater core and side windows were completed, this car would be a great dependable driver anywhere while other restoration is being done. Don't understand me wrong, I don't abuse the car, but I noticed that if you are crusing it at about 30 MPH, and stomp the gas pedal to the floor, it will roast the rear tires until you finally let off the pedal. This car really runs great, has a lot of power and so every now & then I just could not help myself not to show off if there was no cop around. I have not yet done a engine cylinder compression test. This car is missing, so needs all of the 2 door hard top roof trim, around the rear deck glass, the body molding beneath that glass, the upper rain gutter trim, and the stainless trim that holds the rubber weather stripping window gasket seal for when the glass rolls up to seat at the roof line. The flat door glass needs to be angled cut by any automotive glass shop to meet the newly angled roof line, since the present door glass is still squared off being that it was a 2 door hard top, at one time meeting the rear quarter glass. When the roof was modified, all of the welding was done "old school" with using an oxygen/acetylene torch, giving some slight sheetmetal warpage from the heat when welding the roof seam about 8" back from the windshield. [I am pointing to this in photo #15] which is not all that bad, but I planned on hiding this by installing a padded vynal top since the car originaly meant to have vynal top roof line moldings. In the first 6 photos, you will see bondo with in the top roof surface, that I have used a puddy knife to remove. WINDSHIELD, & all glass good. FLOORS; are solid, as is all of the rest of the car, maybe you may find a very small rust hole somewhere, but nothing major like needing a whole floor pan replaced. The trunk floor is solid, needs finishing of when all of the body modification was done. Small square box tubing was used, all very nicely welded in place for reinforcing, and needs either diamond plate or sheet metal in only some small areas to complete the bed area, as I temporarily used small pieces of plywood until I decided, but polished aluminum diamond plate is what I really had in mind for it. All of the exterrior sheetmetal; front fenders, doors and rear quarter panels are solid, straight, having no rust out. The surface of the engine hood has surface rust, but not pitted enough to go through anywhere. This I planned to sand down to bare metal to metal prep and evaluate whether or not to find another hood, but visually it appears to me to be ok. The grill, bumpers, side moldings are all there decent, head lights, tail, brake & turn signals work. All 4 original rims & hubcaps needs tires, the current tires are fair and useable to drive on. INTERIOR; Door panels, arm rests missing, but have both L & R side power window switch panels that mounts inside the doors plastic arm rest. Bad carpeting, Emergency brake works good, speedometer/odometer works fine, dash lights need some bulbs replaced, the original factory Am-Fm radio is there but does not currently play, [might be the speaker]. The original factory power antenna is still there in the fender, the mast looking complete with the antenna tip, appearing to me as if it is still perfectly unharmed, although I never yet tried to raise it up. If the reserve price has not been met, I will decide whether or not to accept the highest or any offer. This car is also advertised localy, so I have the right to end the auction at any time. Car to be paid in full with in 7 days of this listing end by either cash, certified bank check, or money order. Email me your phone number, I have un-limited long distance, I will phone you to discuss all that there is. Back in the early 1990's, I use to travel all over California with an old school bus pulling a car trailer, just to everyday scrounge the self-serve auto wrecking yards, looking for the good old tough to find car parts to sell at Auto Swap Meets, such as Pomona, Fresno, Turlock, Plesanton, California and in Reno, Nevada for the very popular; "Hot August Nights" antique & classic car show event. In those self serve yards, every car gets crushed in about 6 weeks of time after that certain car has been set for us vultures to remove parts off of, so when those 6 weeks are up, that car goes to the crusher. I am proud to say that after doing this from 1985 to 1999, I saved many thousands of parts from going to the crusher, which are now part of someones restored pride & joy ride. Buyer pays shipping. I have a pick up truck & car trailer option for transport, such as for meeting a tractor trailer auto transporter for hauling this car to your destination, or with in a few hundred miles? Currently the car can be drivin on to the trailer, after filling the cooling system, or replace the water pump, to then drive the car anywhere as it is, or somehow first quiet the exhaust.
