Vehicle Detail

2004 Ford Focus SVT 3 door model, black with moon roof, HID lights 4 wheel disc brakes, 2.0 liter twin cam, VVT, 170 hp, 6 speed Getrag manual transmission. 45,000 original miles Here is the story of this Focus SVT I bought the car in October 2005 from an SVT broker in the San Diego CA area that bought the car from the original owner. This guy specialized in only SVTs for resale. The car had 21,180 miles on the car when I bought it. It now has 45,000 miles on the car. I used the Focus as a commuter car mostly on the freeway about 42 miles to work. I did this for about 18 months. I then changed jobs where I work from home and used the car to go to the airport and back occasionally. I have a Cadillac and an F250 so the Focus did not get a whole lot of use after that. Shortly after I bought the car I checked with Ford and found that there were a few factory repair bulletins on the 2004 Focus SVT’s that could be done under warranty if there were any issues found. I have a friend who was service manager at a Ford dealership and he took care of the things that could be problems in the future although I didn’t notice any issues with the car. The items on the service bulletin were as follows. I have the documentation on all the repairs done through the Ford dealer. · 16,491 Sunroof not working, replaced sunroof motor and switch. (prior to my owning the car) · 24,824 miles, Transmission, Clutch, flywheel. As a precaution the clutch, flywheel, pilot bearing, clutch slave cylinder and 6 speed transmission were replaced with new updated Ford Factory parts at 24,824 miles. · 25,381 miles, coil cover loose, broken tabs, replaced cover. · 35,840, Catalytic converter. The bracket on the catalytic converter had broken from vibration. Also a service bulletin item. The Catalytic converter and bracket were replaced at 35,840 miles · 36,410 squeak in front end, replaced half shaft and CV joint at 36,410 Some improvements I made to the car after I bought it to make it nicer driving and looking · Tinted the windows · Added a Steeda shorter throw shifter · Changed the front grill to a Euro model with no turn signals because the HID lights have turn signals in them already. · Changed the rear tail lights to Euro spec with amber turn signals and no reverse light. Added a reverse light behind the rear grill center mounted. Rewired the lights to work as Euro spec with separate brake and turn signals. Looks much better. · Changed the front side turn signals to white lens with an amber bulb. Looks much cleaner. · Removed the stock stereo and saved it, added a Pioneer Premium multi CD player and XM radio with a JL Audio 500/5 amplifier with Boston Acoustics separates, crossovers and two large subwoofers in a box in the rear. · Replaced the stock brake discs when I got the car with drilled and slotted discs and painted the calipers. I replaced the brake pads as well at the time. · I had a custom program written for the computer to smooth out the idle and smooth out the power delivery. This is installed by using an X-Calibrator programmer that comes with the car. It’s not a hot rod program just smoothes everything out and makes it idle at a lower RPM. Other programs can be added but that’s not the way I went. · Changed the rear motor mount (only) to a Steeda urethane mount to stop engine movement. Why I am selling the SVT Focus My daughter was set to go to an east coast college in 2012 so I was planning to give her the car to use but she was accepted at a college in France so I am selling the Focus. In preparation for my daughter to use the car I did quite a few maintenance items early that normally would be done at 60,000 miles since I wouldn’t have access to the car when she was away. The maintenance items that were done over this past Christmas holidays were; · New Gates timing belt · New timing belt tensioner · New timing belt idler pulley · New water pump · New serpentine fan belt · New fan belt idler pulley · New fan belt tensioner · New valve cover gasket. · New windshield washer pump · New wiper blades · New Battery (AutoZone 60 month) · Rebalanced tires · Changed trans gear oil to Royal Purple · Checked oil, always change with Mobile one every 3500 miles · Checked air filter · Checked valve to lifter bucket clearance (within range) · Driver’s door window regulator was replaced · Passenger window regulator was replaced last year · Interior driver’s door handle was replaced. I broke the tab when changing the window regulator so I replaced it. · Replaced the driver’s side fog light because the lens was cracked. · The paint on the Focus has been buffed and polished to remove any swirl marks from the car wash. It’s very shiny now. · Headlights were buffed to be clear. Negatives on the car There are some sand chips on the front hood and front bumper. I touched up some before the car was buffed but there are still some small chips on the front from the sand trucks that drive on the 91 freeway near where I live. The original windshield has pits from the sand/gravel trucks but no cracks. I tried to take a photo but the sand chips but the car is so shiny black that all you see is my reflection. The rear SVT Focus emblem has part of the S missing in Focus most likely caught by a rag at the carwash. The new emblem is about $15-$20. I just didn’t want to hassle with pulling the old one off. The Pioneer separate XM radio receiver sometimes has issues where is causes the head unit to shut off. I bought a spare XM receiver but I never installed it. It happens occasionally but not all the time. The receiver comes with the car. Stock antenna has a crack in it. I epoxy glued the crack.
