Vehicle Detail

Here's my 1962 Ford Thunderbird. I bought it last summer with the idea that I was going to gradually restore it, but the wife wants to buy another car so we need to make room in the garage. Right now, the car is a very nice driver that turn a lot of heads. After I bought it, I did a lot of things to make it run perfectly: I replaced the carbeurator with a Holley (original carb is also included with the car if you want it). I put in a new fuel pump, fuel lines and a new battery. I replaced the rims that were on the car (they weren't the right rims) with the original rims and put new Cooper tires on it. After I got the car running well, the wife insisted that I take it to our mechanic to give it a full mechanical inspection, and the car got his full seal of approval. Everything about the car is very original, and what attracted me to the car was that it was completely intact and how little rust there is on it. All four fenders are really nice, there's just a little rust on the rocker panels. I fixed a few surface rust spots on the upper parts of the car with spray lacquer in the original factory color (chalfonte blue) - the factory color is just a little lighter than the paint on the rest of the car, but unless you are in really low light, it's almost impossible to tell. When I got the body work done, I was going to have the whole car resprayed anyway, so it didn't bother me but thought I should mention it. Interior is very servicable, with no tears in the upholstery. Door panels are intact and in pretty good shape. There is a crack in the console cover. The biggest problem I see with the car is that the front floor pans need to be replaced. The rear floor pans are fine, and as you can see the trunk floor is in great shape, too. Other problems I haven't gotten to fixing are a rusty front cowel (the part between the windshield and the hood)- I found a clean one that is included with the car. One of the taillight lenses has a hole in it (haven't gotten around to finding a replacement yet). The drivers side rear quarter window won't go up and down, so I found a replacement window regulator unit that is also included with the car. There's a dent in one of the rear bumper "Qs" shown in the picture; since I was going to get the bumpers rechromed anyway, I asked the shop and they said it was no trouble to bang this back out during the prep work to rechrome. The wife and I had a lot of fun taking her to cruise-ins last summer and I hate to let her go, but at 17 feet long, we just need the space in the garage right now. I've listed it at the price I paid for it (including tax and title) and hope to recoup some of the money I put into it for her down payment.
