Vehicle Detail
1970 Dodge Dart GT. Yes, a GT! A very rare option in 1970. ORIGINAL OPTIONS INCLUDE: V8 (originally a 318), console shifted automatic 904, power steering, bucket seats, center console, four piston Kelsey Hayes front disc brakes, A/C, A.M. radio, front fender mounted turn signal indicators, Rim Blow steering wheel, vinyl roof, front sway bar, 489 case Sure Grip 8.75" differential with 3.55 to 1 gear ratio, wheel well trim moldings, pin striping and interior map light. This car has had some minor changes made to it over the course of the last 40 years. It is a four (five if you count the guy who sold it to me after owning it for a few months) owner car (including myself). Bought from the original owner in 1991 and in completely original condition, the car was somewhat restored, the 318 swapped for a 360, some Cragar SS wheels and the 340 swinger hood. In 1994 an incident with a garbage truck and the passenger door led to it's sale to the third owner, who, from what I understand, had a brake failure at some point in ownership and in order to avoid a busy intersection, used parked cars to cushion the car to a halt. That's where the front left fender and left rear quarter received their current good looks from. The car was driven like that for the next 12 years or so. It was then sold to a guy in 2003 who managed to start doing some repairs to it but lost interest and sold it to me in the fall of 2003. I started by replacing the gas tank with a new one. After driving it for a few weeks I decided to re-build the 360. I found a .030" seasoned engine block from 1973 to start. J heads were sourced and hardened seats were installed as were the intakes enlarged for 2.02" intake valves using Ferrea valves. The 904 transmission was rebuilt and a B&M shift kit and higher stall speed TCI converter installed. I then rebuilt the front suspension using Moog ball joints and over sized tie rods. All new bushings fro PST were installed. The struts were replaced with over sized units as well. The lower control arms have been boxed for strength and tubular upper a-arms from Firm Feel were installed for better geometry. The power steering gearbox was sent to Firm Feel for an overhaul to increase stability. KYB shocks were installed all around. The rear leaf springs have been moved inboard 3/4" using a Mopar Performance kit, improving tire and wheel clearance for use of larger width tires. The battery was relocated to the trunk. An NHRA mandated master kill switch was installed on the left rear quarter cap per their rules for battery relocation. An Afco aluminum radiator was installed for improved cooling (rock solid 180 degrees) as was a Mopar Performance viscous fan. TTI chrome plated stepped headers and 2 1/2" exhaust system with Dynomax super turbo mufflers compliment the engine well. The car runs excellent! The transmission shifts hard and easily chirps 3rd. I've put almost 20k miles on it. I used to drive this car everyday for 5 years to and from work, LACR (when it was still open) and any where else I needed to go. I have time slips from LACR, 13.2 seconds at 103mph in the 1/4 mile with terrible traction at the start on street tires. I'm sure it would do better with good traction. Completely reliable and fast. I removed the original heat and A/C unit (included with car), it didn't work. I installed an aftermarket heater with a defroster, which works great. The A.M. radio works great as do the turn signals, head lights and dash lights. A new wiring harness would be good insurance from electrical problems. I'll leave that up to the new owner. There is no horn, it didn't have it when I got it. It will need some new tires (left front has a slow leak, rear tires are just old), the seats recovered, new carpet and headliner, new vinyl roof, body work and paint. It's a California car and the only rust is in the roof. Rust pocking from water getting under the vinyl roof. It can easily be fixed. The car comes with the original heat and A/C unit, an extra passenger door, headlight surrounds, rear fender caps right and left, the headliner bows, the vinyl roof trim and some tail light lenses. There are some things like sub frame connectors and torque box plates that I will consider selling if interested. Clean California title. Currently registered and insured. Test Drive? I'm in Hollywood. Ask all questions before you bid. Buyer is responsible for making all shipping arrangements or come pick it up and drive it home.
