Vehicle Detail
NO RESERVE!!!!! Up for auction is this EXTREMELY RARE 1970 Dodge Coronet 500 Convertible. It is a 2 owner car. It is one of those true 1 of 1 cars you always hear about. A little lady bought it brand new May 29, 1970 and had it shipped to Calgary Alberta Canada. Yep, Canada. On the sites i have found there were only 548 1970 Dodge Coronet 500 verts built with the 318/auto combo, and NONE are shown to have been shipped to Canada. This one was though, it's coded Y07 right on the fender tag. i also have the owner's manual and warranty booklet which has the original owner's name, address, and date purchased. The car was barely used through the years, and when brought back to the US in 2006 only had 35000 miles on it. At that time, the 2nd owner decided to make an R/T clone out of it. The 318 was pulled in favor of a good 1967 440 engine. The original cream paint was changed to top banana yellow. I can't find any evidence to show it has ever had any panels replaced. the car was always garage kept in Canada. The car is an absolute dream to drive. It fires right up super fast, idles smooth, and is nice and quiet for a 440. The grilles look absolutely new, the bumpers are still very nice, the disc brake components all look new, the top still looks brand new, exhaust/mufflers and ceramic coated headers look new. i could go on and on. I have put 500 miles on this car, and it runs and drives perfect. Odometer works perfect, and sits around 36250 miles. I am sure people will ask how i know it's original miles. I was told this by second owner, and it is easy to see once you view the car in person, especially the original interior. Car does have a nice fender tag, i have not checked for a build sheet. Body: as said before, body was repainted in 2006. The paint itself is very nicely done, no orange peel etc. The panels all look original, and overall this car is laser straight and very nice. there is a paint chip here or there, and a couple small bubbles typical of a 5 year old restification. The only noteable flaws on the outside of the body are 1. a chip in the taillight surround, very small. i took a pic. 2. decklid trim has a spot on the left side that almost looks primerish. again i am being nit picky. i would rate this car a good 8.5 out of 10. The only rust spot i can fnd is a small 1"x4" spot in the original trunk floor. the floorboards and frame look excellent, i tried to take a couple of underneath shots to show how nice it is for a convertible. The rallye wheels and center caps are new, and the tires as well. tires have less than 1000 miles on them, and i have never done a burnout, i take care of my cars. Interior: The interior is just plain awesome. The carpet is nice, dash is mint, gauge cluster is perfect and all gauges work properly, even the gas gauge. The seats are near mint as are door panels, and are original. it has POWER WINDOWS and POWER CONVERTIBLE TOP! all windows go up and down nicely and top works flawlessly. speaking of windows, the glass is very nice for it's age, it looks very very nice. All dash lights, blinkers, column light, convertible only lights in the rear door panels all work. Even the key buzzer still works when you open the door! The ONLY flaw i can see with the interior, is that the headrests have cracked from age on the corners, and need to be redone or removed. i do have a pair of the chrome bands for the headrest brand new in the box i bought for it that can be included. Drivetrain: As said before, the 318 was ditched in favor of a very nice 440. The 318 did not come with the car, so i have no idea where it went. There are only about 700 miles on the motor and transmission since being put in the car.. The car has POWER DISC BRAKES, new mini starter with shield, ceramic coated headers, and it also has a SERPENTINE BELT setup! No expense was spared on this car, the pulleys and brackets for the serpentine setup are not cheap. Electric fans were added as well. At cruising the coast, i averaged 11 mpg with the 440 which is NOT BAD! It also ran perfectly cool in all that non stop traffic, the electric fans are awesome! Overall: These cars do not come up for sale often, they were the rarest dodge convertibles built out of the 68-70's, and 70 is also the last year for the B body vert. This one was built pretty late in 1970, so it was one of the last B body verts built! This is an excellent example of an excellent daily driver type car. It is not a show car, i purposely don't buy show cars. i buy cars that i can jump in and drive, and i would not hesitate to jump in this car, get on the interstate, and drive it 2000 miles to California. You won't find another this nice without watching it run through an auction on TV! Don't miss out i will only list this once. I am only selling because my true passion is 68-70 dodge chargers, and i really want another nice 68-69. So if you have one you don't want anymore.... I reserve the right to end this auction early at any time for any reason, as car is for sale locally. Also i take pride in writing a lengthy description, as i hate it when i find a car i'm interested in on ebay, only to see it have 4 horrible pics and a 2 line description. I like to be up front and honest so there are no surprises. That being said, if you do have any questions or there is something i left out don't hesitate to email me. Someone is going to add an awesome car to their collection. You will be the only one in your town with a 70 coronet convertible! Thanks for looking and good luck!! AGAIN NO RESERVE BID TO WIN!!!
